*** Help Peter get a heart campaign*** who has contacts in the media??

Firstly, please could someone get permission from Misdee to contact the media, then perhaps post ideas on this thread before rushing out and emailing everyone on the web - once we have her permission we can all do what we can to help Peter.

Secondly, come on MNHQ, you have some 'serious' media contacts surely??

what are you talking about, sea? are you a journalist? how do you know how people got stories? for the record, the internet isn't a particularly new phenomenon but i'm completely at a loss as to why a working journalist wouldn't use it, far less owe a site 'payback'.

but then i'm not clear on what this 'easy copy' is anyway? i've seen MN quoted a few times, which no doubt pleases MN Towers enormously as it publicises their business, and i've seen columnists, some of whom post here, mention it.

no-one's clear on the story, though, i note. if you're going to make it 'easy' then someone's going to have to come up with a line for the eds. i've suggested one but i note that it's been ignored. what's everyone else got?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/07/2007 22:15

Aitch I love you very much.

Are you due on????

foxinsocks · 26/07/2007 22:18

Aitch

fwiw, this has to be driven my misdee/peter/their families because they will be needed for quotes/whatever so it's their call really

as I said on the other thread, misdee has done stuff with the News of the World before so perhaps it'll be a case of her just calling them up IF SHE WANTS TO

but if anything needs to be done, misdee needs to give the go ahead

Aitch · 26/07/2007 22:20

not at all. i'd love to help, but this scattergun 'who knows a journo' approach isn't very clever. at the moment there's no story i could sell to an ed. there's perhaps a local story but what the family need is the most amount of people getting the message, they don't care if the heart comes from the highlands or lowlands, they just want one.

and a dad is (brutally) not as tragic a story as a cute little kid so we have to give them something else. hence the 'internet mums bombard GMTV for their friend' line i suggested. because that has a feelgood factor for GMTV so begins to be in their interest to cover it. and there are thousands of us on here so we could really go for it.

Aitch · 26/07/2007 22:21

obviously once misdee gives the go-ahead, foxy.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/07/2007 22:22

Sure?

ahundredtimes · 26/07/2007 22:24
NadineBaggott · 26/07/2007 22:24

and mn may ring a bell with a few radio stations, newspapers and BBC, ITV and Channel 4 news.

maybe mp could come with a tagline?

Aitch · 26/07/2007 22:25

em-puh-tee

foxinsocks · 26/07/2007 22:26

ewwww

PUT IT AWAY

NadineBaggott · 26/07/2007 22:26

vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvq

there'd have outrage if a bloke had said that!

(I think)

FlameParakeet · 26/07/2007 22:28

I completely agree with everything Aitch has said.

Aitch · 26/07/2007 22:28

gotcha 100x, i feel kinda the same but have decided to Go With It nevertheless.

ahundredtimes · 26/07/2007 22:31

oh good, thanks. Phew. Can go to bed now.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/07/2007 22:32

Well, there is often outrage at things blokes say - warranted or not

But aitch knows me and she knows I love her and that I care. I wouldnt say it to just anyone.

I know I'm hormonal too so I'll say what I like and YOU WILL ALL PUT UP WITH IT OKAY [hard stare]

Aitch · 26/07/2007 22:32

where have you been?

Aitch · 26/07/2007 22:34

(vvv is a bloke, though) name's martyn, works in IT, can't get a girlfriend. hi martyn!

I agree with aitch, it just isn?t as simple as contacting everyone we know in the media, or even emailing one particular media source on mass, they must get thousands of emails every week, from people who want their story covered because it is important to them. Obviously it goes without saying that this is ultimately misdee, and peter?s family?s call, but I also think that before we do anything about this, we also need to seriously consider the repercussions of making this national news.

If Misdee goes on gmtv/sky news/bbc breakfast etc to plead for a heart for Peter, they will want to follow it through. They won?t just want the story/plea, they will want the after story too, and while if Peter gets a new heart the story will have a happy ending and everyone will want to share it, if the outcome is not positive, gmtv/sky news will want to share that as well. Is that really something these people should be subjected to?

all these things are fine and admirable and would work well in the longer term, oops, but my understanding is that time is of the essence wrt Peter's condition.

so on the offchance that a family may lose someone and have their own minds changed re donation in time for Peter to benefit it is surely best to have a larger, more focussed campaign using a service that can turn round stories quickly.

to get onto a news-type media outlet it has to be news, iykwim? not just an interesting or emotional story but to have a current element as a hook. the time pressure might be a hook yes, but what makes that different from others on the transplant list? these are the sorts of questions that will be asked in a media environment, i can assure you. best if we have some sort of answer to them, rather than wasting time that's not ours to waste, iykwim?

littlemissbossy · 26/07/2007 23:37

Thank you carrie - just seen your earlier post
as I said in my OP, we need misdees permission first

And is Peter actually well enough for any of this? AFAIR he is still very ill and it will be a couple of weeks before he will be back on list.

Budababe · 26/07/2007 23:50

OK just read other thread - ignore my last post.

Praying praying that a heart comes available.
