Introducing AIBU voting

TomMumsnet · 17/06/2019 13:25

Hi all,

We're testing out a new feature on AIBU. From today, a few randomly selected Mumsnet users will be able to access a voting function on AIBU posts.

We're testing the vote function because in user feedback lots of you asked for a quick way to answer an AIBU post (essentially; YABU or YANBU).
The general thinking was that this would encourage more interaction - so we're trying it out from today, let's see how it goes.

It won't show on all AIBU posts but you should see it on a few - and importantly, the OP will be able to turn on (or off) the voting function themselves.

Hopefully you'll find it useful - and as ever, we'd love to hear your feedback - so please give it a try, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Oh, and if you really aren't a fan then no problem, just head over to your Talk preferences and you'll be able to switch off (and back on) the voting feature.

Thanks
MNHQ

Fuck, that's annoying.

GreyhoundzRool · 22/06/2019 05:20

Not liking these at all. Incredibly annoying when looking down the list of AIBU threads. I’m actually not clicking on threads which have this function as I find them so intrusive

minesasaugagesupper · 22/06/2019 07:59

There needs to be a 'changed my mind' button as well. I clicked the wrong one and now want to change it but can't.

Cismyfatarse1 · 22/06/2019 08:39

Can't see it on the app.

MintToBee · 22/06/2019 10:45

I have it. I've used it. What's the actual point of it? I'd rather have my read threads changing colour function back. Please fix it!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 22/06/2019 10:49

👎

(Monosyllabic enough for you?)

Aaarrgghh · 22/06/2019 11:09

Just seen it on the thread someone linked to on here. It don’t half look embarrassing. It looks chunky and a bit crap really. Why is this needed?

LastChanceFinalOffer · 22/06/2019 11:39

I like it. 👍

Orchidflower1 · 22/06/2019 11:43

Think it’s fab👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

alwayslearning789 · 22/06/2019 15:03

I like it!

Looking at the snapshot poll and then the comments with the wider context, makes interesting reading.

Jux · 22/06/2019 15:31

I quite like it. I've had it a few times now, and sometime you do just want to say YANBU but have nothing to add; it means you can do that quickly, but that's wheree my reservations lie.

It facilitates knee-jerk reactions and encourages people not to read the thread, so if the OP adds something pertinent in a later post there is no way of changing your vote should you want to. So a pp could easily be very upset, post immediately, get loads of negative votes so she sees that the majority think she's being UR, but with the later posts, it turns out she isn't at all.

That's OK if the subject isn't serious, but sometimes it is very serious indeed.

So I'm 50/50.

OvaHere · 22/06/2019 18:56

I've just discovered I have this option.

As Jux said I'm not sure it's appropriate when an OP is of a serious nature - it seems to flippant.

Perhaps the member posting the thread could have the choice of whether they want to attach the vote option to their OP.

NerrSnerr · 22/06/2019 19:30

@OvaHere The OP does have a choice whether to have the AIBU vote. That's already a feature.

JulianFarquaarMP · 22/06/2019 20:20

@tommumsnet - any chance of anyone answering one of the three emails I’ve sent about an email I was sent erroneously by MnetHQ? You should have an email from another poster about the same thing as they were named incorrectly in it too.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 22/06/2019 21:44

Yep 👍 I’m liking this

MadisonAvenue · 23/06/2019 00:30

I’ve only seen it on one post but think it’s a good idea.

DeRigueurMortis · 23/06/2019 00:48

I had reservations thinking it was going to be a per post voting.

The fact it's a thread vote makes me feel ok with it.

Saves the posts with nothing to offer but want to say Y/N.

msrisotto · 23/06/2019 08:10

Feedback - I like the concept and it allows me to contribute when I wouldn’t ordinarily because I would only say YABU/YANBU. however, I don’t like the appearance, looks like an ad.

disneyspendingmoney · 23/06/2019 11:15

Just sounds like a fast response rather than an actual vote, cos votes get tallied to give a result. So will the final count of yanbus and yabus be published?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/06/2019 13:45

I like it!

RosaWaiting · 23/06/2019 15:55

hate it
click the x to get rid of it immediately.

also think it looks like an ad. if it had been discreet, I might have thought differently.

EggysMom · 23/06/2019 20:13

Has anyone else found AIBU pages really slow to load since this was introduced? To the point my browser (Chrome) gives a pop-up

Nope. I'm using Chrome and have seen no difference

ooooohbetty · 23/06/2019 20:36

I still can't see the option. Is it still not available to iPhone users?

SoupDragon · 23/06/2019 22:46

click the x to get rid of it immediately.

Change your talk preferences to get rid of it permanently.

HebeMumsnet · 24/06/2019 11:07

Just a note for @JulianFarquaarMP. We can't find any emails from you about this we're afraid. If you're still waiting for a response could you possibly hit the report button on your post on this thread and let us know about what happened that way? Sorry for the delay.
