I'm surprised that there hasn't been any information about why the site was so comprehensively down this morning for quite a long time.

Virgin mobile was out of action for hours on Tuesday. Unsurprisingly no detailed explanation from them either.

Shrug it off op Confused.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/05/2019 11:50

Yes, but they at least acknowledged it and poor customer service from one company doesn't excuse poor customer service from another. Services go down sometimes but it's how it's dealt with that really matters.

MN used to be better than this, they used to engage with the users. Not even acknowledging theres an issue is poor form.

Was it?

Floralnomad · 16/05/2019 11:54

It’s hardly important if Mumsnet is down is it , it is important if your phone etc doesn’t work because you are paying for that service .

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2019 11:56

Whenever MN goes down for a long time I worry that there's been another Jeffrey type incident. Sad

gamerchick · 16/05/2019 11:58

It was down? I'm assuming this was in the stupid o'clock AMs.

FiveShelties · 16/05/2019 12:01

It was down for ages - I am in NZ and tried a few times to log on and no response. We are 11 hours ahead here.

milksoffagain · 16/05/2019 12:06

What is a 'Jeffrey type' incident?

SoupDragon · 16/05/2019 12:38

It must have been before 7am because I didn't notice 😂

AnyaMumsnet · 16/05/2019 12:44

Hi there all,

We're really sorry about this.

We're still investigating the exact cause, but from where we are at the moment it doesn't look like there was anything malicious or untoward going on.

We'll keep you posted.

hugoagogo · 16/05/2019 12:47

I was surprised there was nothing on Twitter.
It was early, but I am up early.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/05/2019 12:51

asdou · 16/05/2019 12:56

It has been going down for me periodically for the past 3 days. Was down all last night.

TapasForTwo · 16/05/2019 12:58

It wasn't that early when it went down - about 7.30 ish I think.

asdou · 16/05/2019 12:58

We don't pay for Facebook either, but everyone goes mental when that goes down. Same for all free SM platforms.

Persimmonn · 16/05/2019 12:59

Only the talk threads were down for me. The website itself was up and running, but I couldn’t access any threads at all. This was at 3 - 4am

asdou · 16/05/2019 12:59

It has been glitchy for the past few days anyway. Timing out, not posting, freezing, going completely down for a few minutes etc.

asdou · 16/05/2019 13:00

The whole thing went down eventually.

Clutterbugsmum · 16/05/2019 13:02

Tapas, it wasn't working when I got up at 5.30am.

But I've had a lot of site not available or address not known over the last few days.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2019 13:05

What is a 'Jeffrey type' incident?

MN was hacked a couple of years ago, it went off for a couple of days.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/05/2019 13:09

I had the same issue earlier.

HennyPennyHorror · 16/05/2019 13:10

I assumed it was maintenance because I'm in Oz so often online at odd hours for a UK site.

asdou · 16/05/2019 13:14

Definitely not maintenance - as I said, it has been glitchy for the past few days and finally went dead last night/this morning.

DontCallMeShitley · 16/05/2019 13:31

If I was paying to use the site then I would be a bit narked at the lack of 'customer service' but as I'm not paying then I don't feel I have to right to complain.

However, I am constantly aware of the security risks when using MN especially as one of my e.mail addresses has been compromised (according to haveibeenpwned.com/) by a hacking attempt which appeared to be after I signed up. This site has made me much more careful about my internet security.

asdou · 16/05/2019 13:36

You've every right to complain, as it is our content, written by us, the users, that sells advertising and creates revenue. It is also our presence here, reading, and being bombarded by advertising which keeps them in business. We have every right to be annoyed. They could have posted something on site stuff basically saying we're experiencing technical problems, we're working on getting them fixed. But nope........... Nothing. Until their backs are against the wall by GDPR legislation or something. MN SAY they care about their users - they couldn't care less! Lol.
