Not sure if it's just me but there are so many comments/follow up comments I would like to hit 'like' on but don't necessarily feel the need to comment.

I wouldn't like just a like button either. It would still turn disagreements into a popularity contest. One of the strengths here is that people can take a minority view. They may need to defend it robustly, but that's very different than being rated by people by a thumbs up or lack of.

Rating with a button is such a shallow pointless ungratifying experience.

I definitely wouldn't like that. It would make me become just a lurker again, much more pleasant to speak to people to tell them you do or don't like what they've said. Sorry OP
