My iPhone changes the 2 dashes to one big one so it doesn’t work

As previous posters said, on apple products you have to turn off their auto punctuation doodah.

it only works if you have auto/smart punctuation turned off if using iphone

Auto/smart punctuation is under settings, general, keyboard on iPads and I guess the same for iPhones.
