Black areas on mobile

Anyone else get this? If I'm browsing the site on my phone if I've come back to my browser from using another app the thread will be all fuzzy and have random black blocks all through it before I refresh.

Simple fix but still annoying. :s

Huawei p20 lite on chrome.. Same problem and just had to refresh the page, because of the wretched black box, in order to write this post!

FishesThatFly · 23/10/2018 21:09

It seems that pop.ups are now happening too.

Has MN been hacked again and the coding or something has been altered unknowingly 9

FishesThatFly · 23/10/2018 21:09

Random 9 as it all froze on me again

Chesntoots · 23/10/2018 22:23

Been happening to me too. Thought it was just my phone.

I keep having to refresh the screen.

enthusiasmcurbed · 23/10/2018 22:53

Me too, on a Huawei P20 pro. It's making the site unusable.

MissusGeneHunt · 24/10/2018 07:55

Still happening. Can't click on black boxes for some reason. Here's my Chrome settings:

ILoveMyMonkey · 24/10/2018 09:06

Still happening on my Huawei p9 lite. Swapped to the 'full' website rather than the mobile site and it crashed and goes blank Confused. All very strange. Come on Mumsnet get it sorted!

AnyaaaaaaaaaaaarghMumsnet · 24/10/2018 12:02

Hi there everyone,

Sorry this is taking so long - thank you to everyone who has posted clickstrings so far, if you could please continue to do so to help us get to the bottom of it, that'd be great.

Plexie · 24/10/2018 12:35

What's a click string?

I think this is the world's way of telling me I spend too much time on Mumsnet. Posting is just too painful now so I might as well step away for a while.

Plexie · 24/10/2018 12:41

Ok, I found the click string instructions in page 9 of this thread.

When the black boxes appear, please could you disconnect from the internet - by turning your phone on to airplane mode.

Then click or tap the black box. This should try and attempt to open in a browser window, but because there's no service it won't load - so you get the error message.

However, the click string will be shown in the URL in the site address box (see image).

Please could you capture this web address and post it on the thread.

Plexie · 24/10/2018 12:46

They also would like to know individuals' operating system and version of Chrome.

The techies are also asking for anyone with the problem to post their Operating system and Chrome version

These can be found by...

Launch Google Chrome.
Click on the icon in the upper right corner that looks like 3 short bars.
Click on settings (it's quite far down the menu)
Select About Google Chrome to display the version number.

For example:
Android 6.0.1
Chrome 69.0.3497.100

Managed to capture one at last (first two attempts didn't yield a link but cleared the black boxes instead).

Hey,

Tech has been trying to replicate this issue for a couple of days now and unfortunately, there's no luck.

It would be really helpful if you can answer some of the following questions:

  1. Are there any patterns on which the issue occurs? (e.g. only happens after you open browser after an app)

2)Have you tried to reset browser settings?

Thank you, we are really sorry about this issue.

Thanks,
Elizaveta

SilverHairedCat · 25/10/2018 12:25

Hang on, on the other thread we were told it's a Google issue affecting multiple websites???

SilverHairedCat · 25/10/2018 12:26

No, I take it back, earlier on this thread!!

SilverHairedCat · 25/10/2018 12:27

Are tech using Samsung, Sony and Huawei devices? They seem to be the affected ones. I've not seen any Apple devices named on these threads (at least I don't think I have), and it's pretty much all Chrome related.

AGHHHH · 25/10/2018 12:46

What are tech using to replicate it? do they have ad blockers? Special account privileges that change the way they see ads? Anything like that?

It's only a mobile problem and seems to be happening mostly to Samsung and Huewai users, and some Sony.

OP posts:
Pesilica · 25/10/2018 12:57

Are they trying to replicate it on chrome dev tools using mobile view or on an actual android device? As I find it crazy that they haven't spotted it using an android device considering the frequency! The pattern for me is it appears when the marks and Spencer ad appears or just after it has shown.

I'm not deleting and reinstalling my apps Hmm

FishesThatFly · 25/10/2018 15:15

I haven't had any issues today at all
