Emails when someone posts on a thread - data protection issue

As you can see I've registered again after deregistering to test something out.

Why do I get emails when someone posts on a thread I'm on when I never actually consented to that as part of the sign up process?

I was sure I hadn't and I just deleted and re-registered and I DEFINITELY didn't consent.

You contacted the ICO about inane emails from a parenting website you chose to join???

You seriously need to get a life.

jumblefun2 · 06/07/2018 16:58

I went on their live chat and asked their advice.

Why wouldn't I? Confused

The question is - Why would you? Seriously why?

There are so many threads at the moment, and have been for a while, nit-picking at everything MNHQ do that "offends" posters who seem to think this site owes them something.

OP, you de-registered and then re-registered to do this! Seriously? Have you seriously got nothing better to do with your time?

jumblefun2 · 06/07/2018 17:12

I de-registered, and re-registered, as I explained, to check what I signed up for and what boxes I ticked at sign up because I didn't remember.

because you could identify me in the background by both email address and by IP address which are instantly available as soon as you register for an account here or indeed anywhere that requires an email address.
Shit stirring for the sake of it.

jumblefun2 · 06/07/2018 17:15

What legal basis are HQ using to send those emails was my original question and it hasn't been answered.

Thanks for this thread OP
I'll be interested to see the response

The IP issue with records on the previous problems wasn't clear to me either, I mean do MN keep the username and IP info together?

juneybean · 06/07/2018 22:14

There has been no breach.

ohdearnotmyproblem · 07/07/2018 07:51

Juneybean what are you basing that on? Im genuinely interested - I know there hasn't been a data breach but I believe there mayhave been a breach of GDPR

juneybean · 07/07/2018 09:03

Ah sorry thought it was being inferred that there was a data breach!
