I am boycotting threads about the plight of the McCann family - anyone else?

I have the utmost sympathy for the Mccann family, and hope for a happy ending to thier trouble. Meanwhile I am not happy about many aspects of teh many threads, and hearby resolve to completely boycott them. By not clicking, not reading, nor responding (however horrible the views), and thus not adding to the circular and predicatable route they take, no matter what quality of ontervention is made.

I've been sitting on my hands in order not to post, doing well so far today.

I understand the reasons behind this and pledged myself. So why do I now feel that this is a form of censorship?

I know it is to try and stop the nastiness but it feels wrong to do it this way.

Just watched the video clip of the latest press conference by the McCanns and they say that they want to keep Madeleine's profile high. Surely banning mention on here isn't ideal?

It feels like a betrayal (without wanting to sound melodramatic).

the threads were becoming riddled with personal attacks, agendas, name calling and fingerpointing

i did email MNHQ to complain

one poster has certainly been banned following the threads

if they were about simply keeping her profile high, it would be more palatable, but it was becoming an all consuming thing and the point was being lost

I know lulumama - read some of the threads myself.

This still just doesn't sit well with me.

I just feel like there should be a better way. We all feel sympathetic towards the McCanns. We would all hate to be in their shoes. We all want to see Madeleine returned to her family safely.

Why there was all the vitriol really escapes me. Although I do know that people came on to MN under various aliases purely to post nastily and stir up rows.

I know what you mean buda but for me this is not so much about stifling discussions, but rather tempering them by providing a constant reminder of the level of discomfort felt by a large number of people about the nature of some of the posts and what many perceive as the obsessive need to pour over every detail.
