I am boycotting threads about the plight of the McCann family - anyone else?

I have the utmost sympathy for the Mccann family, and hope for a happy ending to thier trouble. Meanwhile I am not happy about many aspects of teh many threads, and hearby resolve to completely boycott them. By not clicking, not reading, nor responding (however horrible the views), and thus not adding to the circular and predicatable route they take, no matter what quality of ontervention is made.

Clasp your right hand over your left Nork and repeat the boycott pledge after me!

OutragedfromTunbridgeWells · 21/05/2007 13:04

Absolutely.

Starve them of oxygen, keep their spiteful judgement within their own bitter circle.

I pledge to keep away.

lollypopmax · 21/05/2007 13:04

this is the most sensible thing i have read on mn regarding the mccanns, count me in

I too am hoping for a happy outcome to this situation for the McCann family, and I cannot begin to comprehend the terror they must be feeling.
Many of the MN threads relating to this topic are voyeuristic, cruel, smug and callous.
I won't be posting on any of them.
And I hope MNHQ feel it appropriate to deal with this situation effectively.

MaureenMLove · 21/05/2007 13:06

Not boycotting, just keeping my thought to myself, judging by the tention it has caused on here. Still wish the family well in my own thoughts though.

Budababe · 21/05/2007 13:07

I'm in too.

Took so long to type my last post on the other thread that I cross posted with this idea! If no-one else posts that will be yet another thread I have killed!

CODalmighty · 21/05/2007 13:07

NEST TIME ONE POPS UP
lets al watch them falil aorund madly trying to prod us into a reply

ditto"m n is shit" threads

morningpaper · 21/05/2007 13:08

yes I'm with Enid

I mean look that thread has started the fcking speculation thing AGAIN

it's like a crazy old people's home

MrsBadger · 21/05/2007 13:09

will get an odd look if I clasp nork in the office but am in

Debbiethemum · 21/05/2007 13:09

I'm in too, actually since I was already boycotting them - have I no broken my boycott by posting/reading this one?

MrsWeasley · 21/05/2007 13:09

I'm not boycotting just not clicking on them in the same way as I try not to click on the SAHM v not SAHM threads!

Not my place to judge anyone about the choices they make in life.

Angeliz · 21/05/2007 13:10

Don't all beat me at once but the 'we need you help' thread re Madeleine is actually productive (or was last time i looked, not bitchy so can i just point that out for those who may just see this and not bother looking?).

EnidTheInvisible · 21/05/2007 13:10

ok i'm in

if only to stop me being on mumsnet so much

MUMSNET HQ if you read this: can I just reiterate my point about double standards - eg I complained about the mccann threads early on and got an email back about not stifling debate.

Then I was warned for 'hectoring' posters on the mccann threads - any debate but Enid's debate?

Now thirtiesmum, onlyinamerica and dora74 (both the last two have only ever posted on the mccann threads) are free to call me a bully and other vile things and yet the thread still stands.

I was very very good about being respectful towards mumsnet during the gina ford debacle. AIBU to expect a little respect back?

Lio · 21/05/2007 13:11

Same as MrsWeasley - lots of threads I just know not to bother with.

Baysmum · 21/05/2007 13:11

My husband begged me to take some kind of action like this as i had been so upset over some of the comments I had been reading on MN lately. I will now stay away in order to preserve my sanity and faith in human nature. Too much bickering and nastiness when there is a little girl missing from her parents - so sad.

UCM · 21/05/2007 13:12

Watch out for lots of new namechanging I reckon LOL.

lucykate · 21/05/2007 13:12

i'm in

can't abide all the rubbernecking going on

percypig · 21/05/2007 13:13

I have been boycotting them - such threads are mumsnet at its worst - I just don't get some people.

rabbleraiser · 21/05/2007 13:13

It took me a few seconds to work out the left nork/right hand movement, but I also pledge.

Of course, the no clicking bit will the hardest ... but the most important. Hopefully these miserable threads will disappear up their own arses if no one shows any interest.

ghosty · 21/05/2007 13:13

I haven't looked at any of them ... I can't as the whole thing upsets me. Sadly it hasn't surprised me that things have got nasty among people on MN ... that poor family
So, well done Blu and I hope more MNers take your pledge.

I'm now staying off them too. I did post on the very early threads, but tbh now they are just plain weird.

Angeliz · 21/05/2007 13:16

just checked and it's botchy now too

Sad state of affairs this!
