Any chance of being able to collapse threads to show only posts by the OP?

On some of the longer threads which get over run by place markers and troll hunters, it seems to me that it would be useful to just filter to show the OP's posts sometimes.

I have highlight colours switch on for the OP etc, but on a thread running to 800+ posts, it would be nice to just show the 4/5 posts by the OP easily, rather than having to scroll through multiple pages of place marking fun. I know the whole thread can be loaded, but I'm most often on a slightly older device which doesn't like showing longer threads all on one page.

That would be amazing!!

Kidsarekarma · 27/01/2018 14:24

I can't even read long threads on my phone - anything over about 150 posts just freezes and only half shows with a big blank space underneath. I'd love your idea OP - if it worked.

MrsHathaway · 27/01/2018 14:27

I'd love this.

PanPanPanPing · 27/01/2018 16:06

I'd like that option too. Good idea.

I have an idea it's been suggested previously?

Bananasandwicheseveryday · 27/01/2018 16:52

I like that idea. I'd also like to be able to 'watch this thread' via the three dot menu at the bottom of every post. I find it really annoying when I want to add a thread to my watch list and I have to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to do so. Especially when I've had to bookmark my place anyway. Better still, could bookmark automatically trigger the watch option?

SugarMiceInTheRain · 27/01/2018 16:56

I'd really like that idea.

AnyFucker · 27/01/2018 16:57

Great idea

KnockMeDown · 27/01/2018 17:01

This would be brilliant. I often scroll through to read just the OP's posts - some threads are so long and I don't have the time or the will to read through all the placemarking.

This has certainly been suggested before, but no harm in doing so again. MNHQ - are you listening?

QOFE · 27/01/2018 17:03

I use "find in page" a lot for this purpose! But a built in feature would be great.

Lefthanddown · 27/01/2018 17:06

Fab idea

EggysMom · 27/01/2018 17:09

Doesn't that rather defeat the idea of a discussion forum? It would turn them into one-sided blogs ...

AnyFucker · 27/01/2018 17:10

I assume you would be able to expand the thread at any point

unicornpoopoop · 27/01/2018 17:10

Banana - instead of scrolling to the top to watch I just click the arrow button to flip the thread in the other order, then you can watch it from there

PanPanPanPing · 27/01/2018 17:11

To an extent, yes, Eggys. But sometimes it can help to just be able to read the OPs comments, before weighing in with - for example - "cancel the cheque"!

PanPanPanPing · 27/01/2018 17:12

And what AF said - there should always be the option to expand the thread anyway.

picklemepopcorn · 27/01/2018 17:48

This would be great, and also to be able to tell when OP has returned to a thread.

Greystar · 27/01/2018 22:14

Great idea!

Toffeelatteplease · 27/01/2018 22:18

Oh that would be fab

madeyemoodysmum · 27/01/2018 22:48

Please!!! Yes

AdultHumanFemale · 27/01/2018 22:53

I've wanted this for ages too!

cavatron · 27/01/2018 22:53

Yaaasss! Do this!

SingaSong12 · 27/01/2018 22:57

Agree with this - doesn't necessarily mean I won't read the whole thread, but you know where the OP is coming from.

MipMipMip · 27/01/2018 23:07

Great idea! In the same vein I would like an option to only get thread notifications where it's the OP. Some you want both OP and posters, sometimes just OP.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 27/01/2018 23:10

Love this idea!

WhenDoISleep · 27/01/2018 23:11

Eggys I think it should be an option to just show the OP's posts, not the default and it's not something I would personally use on a genuine discussion or anecdote thread. But there have been a number of threads over recent months which run to the 500+ post mark, on which 90% of posts are variants of 'cancel the cheque/place mark/any update OP?'. This is where the ability to just show posts by the OP would be useful I think.
