I'll say it out loud ........ I dislike all the abbreviations on Mumsnet

DD, DH, DP, GF, DS and all the others. I get common abbreviations like etc. Xmas but I feel like I need an entire map legend just to read a post. And if we can all write lengthy posts surely we can just write daughter or son? And why do we have to call them 'dear' anything? It pisses me off! So there! ;)

I have no clue what any of the abbreviations mean and it’s so annoying... makes it hard to join in the conversations..

December 2017. I think my opinions are exactly the same as when I posted on this thread back then back then. Grin

Here's the list though

DF is the one that winds me up. I've seen it used for dear friend, dear fiance, or dear father. Sometimes guessing the wrong one of those can really make a post surreal...

Finally thank you! I completely agree I hate the abbreviations. They are so unnecessary LOL

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2022 20:57

As I said 5 years ago probably, the longer you are on here the less you even notice them. It's just a shorthand and you get used to it v quickly. The context usually means you can work out whether 'GP' is doctor/grandparent or guinea pig...

The d in dh isn’t necessarily “dear”. I normally assume it’s “dickhead”.
