Ad site has taken over MN on my phone

fast.adsnewark.com popped up on my phone when I logged into MN. I can't get rid of it, neither can I open a new window in my browser.
I have restarted the phone, no joy.
Anybody had this or can advise how to get rid of it?
TIA

Hello!

Thanks so much for flagging this.

Really sorry for any inconvenience this is causing - can you let us know what browser you're using and what page you were on when the popup happened?

endofthelinefinally · 13/10/2017 15:42

Chrome.
And I had just logged in.
Happened to be looking at the Teacher donated dd's money thread in discussions of the day.
Still trying to close the window but it won't close and I can't open another window.
Essentially can't use the browser because all that opens is this ad that is a competition to win a phone.
irritating spinner thing.
BT ad came up saying welcome BT user. which I am not, then this one.

I'm having the same issue. I'm on a Samsung S6, latest operating system and using Samsung Internet. I was on the _chat main page and got the BT user one plus the fast.ad one, I had to shut everything down to clear it as it wouldn't let me leave the page.

endofthelinefinally · 13/10/2017 16:40

I shut everything down several times, then eventually managed to delete it from my history.

I've just been redirected to the fastads page from active Congo menu whilst not pressing anything.

I've had the same issue, on phone and tablet, both using Chrome

oldsilver · 13/10/2017 17:33

Same thing. Samsung A3 (16). Generic browser. Things I ought to know thread. Been busy fighting off a giant BA ad covering screen as well. Screenshot, don't know if this helps.

Same thing, chrome on Samsung S7. Managed to close it all eventually and get back to the thread about the carer and a CF asking or a lift.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 13/10/2017 20:28

I had what endof had on my 2013 Nexus, running bog-standard Android (marshmallow? buggered if I know...). Hmm.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/10/2017 20:31

Same here. Honor 5X on latest Android. Had to kill browser and type a new site in fast log restart.

piperatthegates · 13/10/2017 20:34

I had the same thing yesterday on my Lenovo laptop using Chrome ( I can't remember which thread I was looking at but it happened twice in quick succession after I rebooted my laptop once.

I googled and got rid of it by resetting my Chrome settings to original default if that helps anyone.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/10/2017 20:40

Same on my tablet!

ReinettePompadour · 13/10/2017 20:41

Ive had it too on my samsung A3 using chrome. I eventually got the page to close by running a maintenance fix and turned it off and back on again. It wouldn't go by just closing the tabs down.

Madcatter · 13/10/2017 20:47

Yep, same here. Inbuilt browser on Samsung s6. Tried clearing cookies, forcing stopping the browser multiple times, disabling javascript, restarting phone. Eventually managed to get to browsing history and deleting it all.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/10/2017 21:08

Adblock Plus.

DMCWelshCakes · 13/10/2017 21:09

Same here! Galaxy Tab A using chrome.

FeelingAggrieved · 14/10/2017 01:24

Me too... Galaxy S7 on chrome.

ilovesooty · 14/10/2017 01:27

Me too Samsung J5 on generic browser.

SparklyMagpie · 14/10/2017 01:28

Same here on Samsung s8 using Samsung internet

LibertyHill · 14/10/2017 01:39

Me too. Happened today, can't get rid of it. Have to use another browser.

GiraffesLikeToDance · 14/10/2017 01:42

Yup same whenever I open a link from mn email to here. In particular it's happened with the not allowed into child's school thing. Galaxy phone.

lljkk · 14/10/2017 01:43

Get thee an Adblocker pronto. It's the only path to sanity when browsing, nowadays.

So... my entire lappy used to seize if I looked at MN pages. Things were getting to the point that I didn't want to come on MN at all. Got an ad blocker and not only have the seizures stopped but OMG my battery life is MUCH longer. The fan no longer whirls constantly. I can't believe the difference.

This problem somewhat shared by other websites, but MN was by far the worst of my regular websites. To be fair, some other sites won't load due to advert feeders... so I don't look at them. Talk about ridiculous strategy.

honeysucklejasmine · 14/10/2017 01:46

Chrome on a Moto g5.

tccat · 14/10/2017 03:00

I've had this several times, big bt advert and have to log off to get rid of it, bloody pain in the arse

TheHuffAndPuffALot · 14/10/2017 03:38

Glad it's not just me. Twice now I've had Talk Talk ads, then various other ad pages pop up when on MN.
I'm on my S7, accessing MN via Chrome.
