When the site owner starts being a bit of a to a poster because of a jokey picture on another website, there's not really any comeback is there?!

There has been a line drawn and people are coming down on either side of it. It's not great.

I remember people used to suggest getting rid of aibu.

I wonder if actually mnhq should just stop moderating aibu and let it be the bear pit it's trying to be.
Then take the time to moderate the rest of the board.

Most of the trolls go to aibu for the traffic. And the posters who just want to snark mostly congregate there.
It use to be that chat was much gentler but the aibu attitude is across the board now.

Yes, AIBU is BRUTAL now, and that attitude does bleed into the rest of the board.

I think the bear pit idea is a very good one really. People can get it out of their systems on that board and go back to being robust yet supportive everywhere else.

Brown nose post wasn't from reddit, it was posted here instead of reddit to save people having to dirty themselves by going onto reddit again.

I've seen nothing but completely average posters showing their frustration on reddit, and using it as a safe space where they can say what needs to be said about our overlords MNHQ and the recent trolling incidents without fear of being banned or having their post deleted. So basically experiencing real free speech. There's no real nastiness just frustration from people who helped build up MN and are now being informed they're no better than shoplifters.

I agree that we should go back to " self moderating " especially in places like AIBU. Someone said earlier that we used to be able to call a twat a twat in days gone by, that's how I remember it anyway when I joined in 2007.

I also don't think Justine meant that Stratters was a troll in the real sense of the word but more likely she meant that she was being goady and tbf if HQ have been reading Reddit I can see why they'd think that.

Threads are so often deleted because they refer to incidents on other sites that I thought it was verboten to mention them. Has something changed on that too?

I think MN should just get rid of AIBU. It's been horrendous for the boards. And if MN wants to change its target audience, review the title of the Talk RoundUp accordingly

You must be looking at a different reddit to me then. The ones I have seen have listed MN posters names and slagged them off. Not MNHQ but MN posters.

I doubt they will get rid of AIBU. It draws a lot of attention to MN.

It's so petty of them to be scouring Reddit and getting all butt hurt about what's on there, and then bringing it back here!

That can't seriously be why stratters has been banned though. Has she been given a reason? That can't be it, not officially anyway, otherwise they would have to ban anyone else on Reddit who identifies as named Mner who posted anything dodgy about any one else who is a MNer. Right?
