Changes to "Threads I'm On" - don't like them ...

LurkingHusband · 15/08/2017 13:51

Have noticed that the list of last 5 posts is now missing the time/date.

So there's no way of telling whether they were posted in the last 5 minutes, or (with all the zombie threads being revived) the last 5 years.

Have MNHQ heard of A/B testing ?

SnickersWasAHorse · 15/08/2017 13:52

Seems to be working for me on the mobile site.

Sparklingbrook · 15/08/2017 13:53

But if you are already on the thread you will know it's not a Zombie won't you?

diddl · 15/08/2017 14:01

Some of us have lost TIO completely-so think yourselves luckyGrin

TwoLeftSocks · 15/08/2017 14:01

I'm on the mobile site and it's dropped all threads I'm on and I'm watching, just says there aren't any.

ceeveebee · 15/08/2017 14:07

Mine says "you haven't posted on any threads recently" even though I have posted today!

Willow2017 · 15/08/2017 14:15

Phew thought it was just me!

When I try to use my mobile (using the desktop site) half the page is pblank before the threads show up and I have no 'watched threads' and no 'I'm on' threads apparently.

What is going on, the threads are there one minute and disappear the next!

Even on the pc instead of the usual page I got a list of AIBU, then list of all threads, before I finally got 'last hour'.

Very frustrating as just popping on and off as I do stuff and its a waste of time as nothing to see.

Help NMHQ

LurkingHusband · 15/08/2017 15:12

Problem has gone away.

By the simple expedient that now clicking on TIO says that I'm not on any ...

I don't need to re-ask my question now. MNHQ haven't heard of A/B testing Sad

Oh well ...

Hi folks,

Apologies!

We’re making a release that focuses on performance improvements to the Threads I’m On, Threads I’m Watching, I started, Last 15 minutes, Last hour, Last Day and Unanswered pages.

It shouldn't take too long so please do hang in there!

Who'd have thought that Tuesday PM was MNs quietest time ? Amazing what you learn !

OP posts:
LurkingHusband · 17/08/2017 17:00

Just to flag up that this is still "an issue" with me.

Unless MNHQ can confirm that it's the New World Order of things ?

Hello!

Just popping on to say that we're still looking into the time stamp and sorting stuff out our end (well, our tech team is!)

Do bear with us and sorry for the inconvenience here.

I refer you to my comments upthread.

Hope your tech team get it sorted before they have to start school Grin ...

Hello!

Apologies for the late-ish reply.

Tech are still making fixes here so we do hope to be able to update more next week. In the meantime, all feedback is appreciated!

LurkingHusband · 25/08/2017 11:20

all feedback is appreciated!

really ? Such as it seems to be amateur hour at MNHQ ?

Sorry that you feel this way, LurkingHusband.

We know that the issues with TIO are a huge pain in the bum - we'll be back to check what's going on when all the fixes have been released by tech (such as the entire TIO disappearing). We'd hate to offer a time frame that we couldn't honour but honestly, we are taking the feedback seriously and tech have already started working on showing threads from hidden topics as well as other fixes.

LurkingHusband · 25/08/2017 12:00

Sorry that you feel this way, LurkingHusband

Because it is that way. At the very least, any change plan should have incorporated a rollback if implementation was problematic.

and before introducing any changes to site functioning, maybe an A/B testing regime to shake out which changes add to the experience best ?

Quite aside from it's social functions, MN is a commercial outfit. Badly made changes can cost money, if they prevent users seeing all that lovely advertising goodness.

One of my problems with this update has been that the staff (tech and mods) haven't known how it worked before. We shouldn't be explaining it repeatedly.

I refer you to my previous points.

I'll wager that behind the scenes, the original tech experience has long since gone.

Which is why it's less than impressive that no "escape route" was planned along with any changes, so that if there was a problem the original site could be restored.

I'm guessing there probably wasn't even a checklist of post-change items that needed to be checked and working before the changes could be signed off.

You might just have got away with that kind of attitude in 1987, but in 2017 ?

My last guess would be that if I were to walk into the operations team, I'd double the average age Grin.

It's worth repeating the suggestion that if you aren't paying, you are the product ....

Bit ageist.

I don't like to go on....
still not working.

I hadn't realised how much I relied on it.
