MNHQ here - we're moving to HTTPs tomorrow morning

Hi everyone,

Tomorrow morning, Mumsnet will be moving from HTTP to HTTPS across the entire site. For those who are interested, HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. The 'S' at the end of HTTPS stands for 'secure' - it means that all communications between your browser and the website are completely encrypted.

When the move happens the site may be down for a short time, but this is absolutely nothing to worry about; no-one's individual security will be affected in any way. Once we're back up, you shouldn't notice anything different at all, but if you do experience any issues with the site we'd really appreciate it if you could feedback on this thread.

Thanks for your help. Flowers

I thought it was a stripping out of slow to load advertising.

Johnson Press is infested with it.

MopedManiac · 26/01/2017 21:57

Thank you foldedtshirt you're a Star Smile

Chatelherault · 26/01/2017 22:33

Good luck tech, delighted to hear it

coxsorangepippin · 27/01/2017 08:37

And it's faster!

ExplodedCloud · 27/01/2017 13:51

Love a change that sneaks in quietly with no shouting. Good job tech :)

FlissMumsnet · 27/01/2017 14:20

We aim to please Smile

Lweji · 27/01/2017 14:25

Ah, in mine it shows https but crossed out and Not Secure.

I'm sending KatherineMumsnet a PM

ExplodedCloud · 27/01/2017 15:41

It's still awfully slow on the mobile site. Content loads fine but the last 15% of the page including the shortcut bar takes several minutes.

CerealShopper · 27/01/2017 19:29

Hadn't even noticed! Well done Tech!

SilverHawk · 27/01/2017 20:20

Very glad it's happened. Thank you Tech Smile

Lweji · 27/01/2017 20:22

It's ok at home, actually.

DJBaggySmalls · 27/01/2017 22:26

Its so much better now, thank you! Star

PixieMiss · 27/01/2017 23:16

Why wasn't this done a long time ago? Having done this process myself on various websites, its very simple.
MNHQ holds a lot of personal data and with the amount of hacks and attacks increasing over last few years I am really surprised its taken this long!

cariboo · 28/01/2017 06:41

This is good news indeed! Free speech at last.Wink

ExplodedCloud · 30/01/2017 19:24

Ooh. It's loading the frills at a decent speed now :)

jdoe8 · 01/02/2017 09:14

Gosh the normal site is ugly AF, i just had to switch back to mobile and its all good. Well done all

SasBel · 01/02/2017 11:14

Works fine on iPad, padlock in place and much faster to load too! Good job.

oldsilver · 05/02/2017 18:48

Hiya, although it says www bla bla bla it also appears to be showing an open padlock. I'm sure this has been shut recently - should I be concerned or is this just showing my techy ignorance?

And now it's showing as locked again. How strange...
