Hi MNHQ - I've just sent you an email about a deleted thread which is causing me real concern. But I don't know how long it will be before you get round to reading it so I'm trying this as another way to draw your attention to my email as I think the point I am making in it is serious and needs addressing asap. I'm bring elliptical as font want to make a bad situation worse. Thanks

Report your post. It often brings it to their attention quicker. I've reported for you, but the more reports they get the better (I believe).

Thank you - I'll do this and would be grateful for anyone else doing the same. If I get the desired result from HQ I'll fill people in as I think there's an important issue involved

The more I think about this, the more concerned I am getting (it's not personal btw). Should I take action in another way by directly contacting the person who is the subject of my concern? Leaving something up on such a large site as this worries me.....

Purple - I'm trying to avoid making the situation worse but only MNHQ can make it better which is why I need to get their attention. As soon as I have and it's been dealt with, I'll post about the principle involved. I'm grateful for those reporting as its only to get their attention, not to pass comment on the actual concern. If I go directly to the person, maybe they will be able to do something

I've just had a thread deleted too for 'breaking talk guidelines'. I'm disappointed because it was an important topic for discussion and I can't see how I broke the guidelines.

AIBU to ask for a more detailed explanation from MNHQ?

Have no idea what thread or what details, but TBH it's important to remember that MN is a website not a service. However worrying someone's situation might appear to be, it's not Mn hq's place to get involved, not least because there is no way of knowing how true what is being posted here actually is.

Also, many people post details about their lives here in assumed confidence, and even though we know that MN is a public forum, if MN HQ were to start becoming involved in people's business it would certainly put people off from posting here in future.

My understanding is that MNHQ have certain responsibilities under the law for the content of posts in certain situations - it's not a free for all in which anyone can say anything about anyone else with no independent evidence required. If I post personal details on here, I'm at least shielded by 'Bourdic' - I also know what I am posting about myself and if I then decided it was too identifying I could ask for it to be deleted. I'll say no more at the moment

It's very broad though, they really have very little responsibility, I.e. A poster can post that they intend to commit suicide, MN HQ will delete the thread and email the poster a number for the Samaritans.

If you e.g. Posted that you were living with someone who has abused your child and that information was potentially identifying, and bear in mind that it's only potential unless you start posting names and addresses of those involved, MN HQ have no responsibility at all to do anything.

The guidelines cover a variety of situations and MN make it clear they will delete posts they become aware of that break the guidelines. In addition, there must be reputstional issues to consider which I am sure they do

AndMilkTwoSugars, lots of people lurk, you know. I did, for years. Recently, I've noticed an influx of 'non-traditional' Mumsnetters posting their views on various subjects. I think it's fantastic that Mumsnet is attracting a broader demographic and I wholeheartedly encourage anybody reading this to sign up and speak out on whatever issue moves you.
