Slow performance, particularly in evenings

Just that - pages take an age to load at times, posts take ages to post.

Doesn't happen on other sites, so it's you - perhaps all the ads etc loading?

Using BT Infinity 1 - getting better than 38 M download speed in tests - and as I said, everyone else is fine.

Been awful again the past few days. If a thread loads after only 4 or 5 attempts I consider that a win.

cozietoesie · 24/09/2016 16:40

I suspect ('suspect') that it's basically down to lack of capacity and that that issue is also what's causing the poor performance.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/09/2016 16:56

I think it's lack of bandwidth and something odd about the way they serve their adverts - MN isn't particularly ad heavy yet their ads take a very long time to load compared to the rest of the page.

I suppose it may also be possible that they are experiencing DDOS attacks again?

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 24/09/2016 18:03

yep, happening lots to me too.

Often I'll click 'post' several times, and only on the final one, will it actually connect enough to try.

Other times it will hang on loading a thread.

It's always the ads. Even with adblocker on, it doesn't stop it trying to connect to those sites, and that's what slows it down. It's doubly irritating, because the stupid jumping page is still happening with one of the ads - they don't have the page formatted right to accept an ad of that size - so you always have to wait a few seconds before clicking on something. Now it's worse, because those few seconds can be ages (or not), and you never know if you click on something whether it will be the right thing, or if it'll finally load and accept the click in the same instant, and thus you'll be in the wrong forum, yet again.

Yes, even trying to post this message it's happened again, took several tried where absolutely nothing happening when I pressed 'post message', then it chucked me back to the main talk page, and only because my browser happens to store pages with text boxes filled, could I use the forward buttons on my browser to get back to this message without having lost it.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 24/09/2016 18:06

And control-Enter finally worked to let me post it, whereas clicking on the post button did nothing. (It looks like it clicks; the pointer turns to a hand, the button changes colour, but absolutely nothing happens).

TheDowagerCuntess · 24/09/2016 20:23

Unbelievably slow for me today (your evening).

AyeAmarok · 26/09/2016 09:31

Has been very slow for me last few evenings too.

NotCitrus · 26/09/2016 09:45

It's been like this for me for the last couple years, but this last week has been particularly bad.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/09/2016 12:05

Yes, gave up last night - it's been like this for at least a year for me, sometimes worse than others especially evenings/nights.

I will report this thread AGAIN.

cozietoesie · 29/09/2016 23:07

Much as usual this evening - i.e. not so good.

shitchef · 30/09/2016 12:02

I think it's the ads. Since installing an adblocker it's been much better for me (sorry MNHQ but without it the site is unusable) although it means I get that jumping about of thread titles. It's an ongoing problem if you look through previous threads and occasionally MNHQ appear, apologise profusely and bugger all happens. I'm not techy but I think it must be to do with the set up of the site and I'm not convinced MNHQ can solve it (or they're unwilling to invest the money to solve it).

ProfYaffle · 30/09/2016 13:04

I agree. It's been an ongoing problem, can't see it improving any time soon.

cozietoesie · 06/10/2016 21:37

I can usually get into the Topics list but after that - if I choose a topic to look at, say - it's anyone's guess.

fourpawswhite · 06/10/2016 21:39

Same for me, and all the usual stuff everyone keeps reporting. So slow. App cuts out all the time. Averages every five minutes. Post and it says it's failed so you post again. Then both post. Angry

cozietoesie · 06/10/2016 23:17

The app-crashing and lying about things is apparently to be one of the subjects of a forthcoming bug fix. I hope that's soon.

cozietoesie · 18/10/2016 22:03

Performance seems to have improved a little by the way. (Over the last week or so.) I don't know whether anything was implemented behind the scenes?

cozietoesie · 24/10/2016 23:02

Definite improvement over the recent past - although maybe it's just for me. Wink
