Stopping new users posting pictures?

PopFizz · 30/08/2016 00:23

Is there any way? Like having to be a member for three months before accessing the sex topic, can they not have to be members for three months before posting images?

I'm seriously haunted by one tonight, and I don't usually get affected.

alexandranarino · 31/08/2016 19:20

Does anyone know why they are posting this stuff and who is it aimed at?

WatcherOfTheNight · 31/08/2016 20:45

No idea Alex, there are so many reasons Trolls Troll,it's impossible to guess the motives behind them.

PopFizz · 31/08/2016 21:02

These seemed to like the disruption from their follow up messages, and the shock factor. They also seemed very juvenile tbh.

WatcherOfTheNight · 31/08/2016 21:29

Yes,yes & yes PopFizz!

frokingst · 01/09/2016 01:05

Thanks Watcher. I saw your post on the other thread. Flowers

I think the shock of the images just really got to me. I'm not at all squeamish, but some of those pictures were beyond upsetting. Hats off to you for being able to see and deal with them all. Like the Op, I was haunted by ones I saw and reported.

Do you know if HQ have made a decision on this? At least with words, you can disassociate and switch off but photos are immediate and not easily forgotten.

WatcherOfTheNight · 01/09/2016 02:07

Hi Frokingst,I completely agree with you & I think everyone else who saw those images would also agree.

The poster who did it has been banned & HQ have said they are working on a solution,i would imagine that once a decision has been made we will know more.

MNHQ views everything that Nightwatch hides/deletes so they have seen exactly how bad it has been over the last few nights, they know how distressed people are at what was posted & they want this sorted ASAP.
Hopefully we will hear more soon.

PopFizz · 03/09/2016 23:13

MN, can we have an answer and hopefully a resolution asap? With more images tonight, surely we can get some kind of block?

OP posts:
TwoLittleBlooms · 04/09/2016 00:30

I agree that we need something in place to stop new poster uploading pictures for a period of time. I am lucky I haven't seen anything thankfully due to warning threads and WatcherOfTheNight and other night watchers dealing with it (Thank you)

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 04/09/2016 00:33

I think you need to prod Tech for this MNHQ. I'm sure it's not difficult for a site as big as MN.

ColdTeaAgain · 04/09/2016 00:40

Tbh I wouldn't be fussed if picture posting was removed full stop. We managed fine without and it just gives another avenue for abuse.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/09/2016 02:23

I think blocking pictures over night is another idea that would help, something needs to be done & done quickly.

ophiotaurus · 04/09/2016 09:31

What is being done about this?

StrattersHasACunningPlan · 04/09/2016 11:50

I'm inclined to agree with ColdTea.

WatcherOfTheNight · 04/09/2016 12:01

I have emailed HQ again asking if there is any news on this,I haven't heard back yet though.

EmmanuelleMumsnet · 04/09/2016 12:13

A big thanks to the night watch and to everyone who reported posts last night - we appreciate it a lot!

Will see what's happening with the suggestion to stop new users posting pictures. I understand it is being looked into at the moment. Please believe we're doing all we can and we all want the same thing!

Thanks again Flowers.

ophiotaurus · 07/09/2016 14:49

Any update HQ?

WatcherOfTheNight · 10/09/2016 04:41

I'm also querying if there is any update ?

In light of the nature of things I would've hoped we would've heard something before now.

This is affecting how Nightwatch respond, especially to reports & pictures during the Nightwatch hours so it would help if we could be assured that an image posted in the early hours definitely hasn't been posted by a troll or PBP.

ophiotaurus · 10/09/2016 22:30

Bumping again.

WatcherOfTheNight · 10/09/2016 22:55

Hey Ophiotaurus, thanks for bumping & helping to keep this issue visible!

RebeccaMN emailed me today, she's getting on the case with this & to help Nightwatch get a better system to deal with the night trolls.
Hopefully that means we will have some news about this issue very soon.Smile

PopFizz · 11/09/2016 16:39

Be good to get some feedback for sure!

OP posts:
IonaMumsnet · 11/09/2016 20:26

Hi folks - sorry for the delay. We are still looking at a few options to help prevent this happening again. Please bear with us. We'll update here as soon as there's any concrete news. Thanks for your patience.
