A moan about a thread deletion

Sorry to be a bit over-invested in what was just random chat. Chippednailvarnish's thread was fun though. I know it started off as "why are there so many first time posters posting dodgy threads", which could be seen as policing who can or cannot start a thread. But if that was beyond the pale, it should have been zapped immediately. It developed into a fun thread. Quite a few of MNHQ posts, too. It was allowed to stand all evening and all morning and then went. Yes, there were a couple of minor arguments, one got dissolved last night, before and during some of HQ's posts.

There were so many people on there. The deleting of a jocular comment was already weird, the "victim" of that joke said she got the joke, no problem, it's funny. It wasn't grand politics. What was it then? The discussion over fuck to rhyme with duck or look? Or troll-doll, troll-foal? Even this morning peace broke out over a frozen shoulder after a short argument.

It really makes me feel censored. Not because it was so important, but because it was such trivial fun and got zapped.

Have a rota who starts a really boring thread. Challenge: find it. It will be started at 10am sharp. For instance: where do I buy grey boys' school trousers in Primary Education. Or how to remove a grease stain from a pair of Jeans in Housekeeping.

But it really isn't about excluding anybody. Neither was Chipped's thread yesterday. It is about goadyfuckery killing any thread.

Will someone tell me wtf shipped or shipping is about? I presume nothing to do with Aristotle Onassis (other shipping tycoons are available)?

Nothing plastic about John Taylor. Grin I am not sure I am allowed to discuss Duran Duran on MN any more though. Sad

Thanks! I saw it on one of the complaining about Larry threads but had no idea what it was about.

Ohhhhh. Is this going to be a down-the-rabbihole moment like when I discovered the 'delights' of fanfic and ended up traumatised by some truly awful slashfic?

ScrambledSmegs · 13/04/2016 22:18

Rabbithole.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 13/04/2016 22:18

I have just googled John Taylor and his hair isn't unlike Harry Styles

Grin there you go Sparkling you could change 'sides' Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 13/04/2016 22:20

Someone was "kind" enough to try to introduce me to a certain group's music.

The reason for their popularity eludes me.
Confused

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2016 22:21

If I was 14 years old in 2016 I would probably be all over FB declaring my undying love for Hairy Hairstyles. Grin

My current crush is on Noel Fitzpatrick. My tastes have changed somewhat. Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 13/04/2016 22:23

But would you gatecrash a website your mum posts on?

MrsVamos · 13/04/2016 22:23

You're quite right, Sparks. Little bit plastic, I think, ol' John.

Not like Nick Rhodes.

Its not him, is it ?

On 'our' threads Sparks you can waffle on about DD to your hearts content.

I'll have George (Michael, not Boy) and Zayn.

I know, I know. Can't help it. Eclectic, me. Grin

MrsVamos · 13/04/2016 22:25

Oooh, I wouldn't say no to Noel, either.

After you, Sparks.

Toraleistripe · 13/04/2016 22:26

I miss the Larry threads tbhSad

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2016 22:27

I couldn't imagine my Mum being on a website or what she might post about. Grin

I want to go for afternoon tea with the hat and make up wearing judge from The Voice.

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2016 22:28

Aww lovely Noel. Plus he's all intelligent and everything.

Chippednailvarnish · 13/04/2016 22:29

My mum regularly posts inappropriate stuff on my FB wall Sad

paxillin · 13/04/2016 22:32

My mum would walk onto this thread, see me here, look around, listen in for a moment and would say "Right, bedtime for me. Don't sit up all night and don't be too noisy". She is lovely, really.

BastardGoDarkly · 13/04/2016 22:33

I'd be conscious of him critiquing my dog Hmm hmmmm, his breaths a bit smelly bastard, does he always walk backwards on laminate? ... That sort of thing.

Chippednailvarnish · 13/04/2016 22:33

My mum would wonder if shipping is the same as dogging.
