Mumsnet insight - email to update details

JenniMoo · 22/06/2015 20:44

I'm on the survey panel and had an email to check my details. I clicked through and it went to a non-MN domain. Has everyone had this email? Is it genuine? I don't really won't to add details to the page if it's a phishing email, but if it is they've already got a lot of info on me, so I guess it's genuine...

Oh fuck. I've literally just completed this survey. Hope it's all above board. Didn't even give it a second thought. Stupid.

AnnMumsnet · 22/06/2015 21:20

Hello, just to reassure, it's all totally legit and from us.

Feel free to email us back and a real person, Kathryn, will respond.

Sorry for any worry caused and thanks if you have updated your details.

Ann, head of Insight

Shot glass smiley is definitely needed Cozie but Wine was best we can do atm. I remember the days when all we could do was off [biscuits] and Wine is an improvement on that Grin

TheColdDoesBotherMeAnyway · 22/06/2015 21:21

Thanks Ann Wine

AssembleTheMinions · 22/06/2015 21:22

Yes I noticed that as well. The month and year were correct but not the day. Tbh, I may well have deliberately done that myself when I registered to disguise myself a bit. It was so long ago I have no recollection.

Trills · 22/06/2015 21:22

Thanks Ann.

DonkeyOaty · 22/06/2015 21:23

Had one too but ignored for the mo
Happy to keep ignoring til we get a yay

nb looks legit!

Scootergrrrl · 22/06/2015 21:23

I've had an email about it too. It does fall somewhat below the grammatical standards one has come to expect from MNHQ. Wink

Does anyone remember when HQ got hacked and were sending out posts from Justine, saying all MNers were hideous witches, while she was on holiday (disclaimer - it was something like this. It was a long time ago. I don't really remember the specifics!)

JenniMoo · 22/06/2015 21:23

My DCs DOBs are close but not quite right. Perhaps we only have ages before, as that would work for mine.
My gut instinct is it's genuine, but I'm not answering until I get clarification and in future a note on the MN site to say they're updating details would have saved me posting here and worrying everyone!

Mine was the same Assemble. Luckily no harm done.

cozietoesie · 22/06/2015 21:23

It's interesting and useful to get an email that you suspect of being a phishing one - raises your alert levels. Common sense is always the best way with these things but given that we're all being hit with them many times, any sharing of tips to recognize them might make a useful thread - perhaps on Geeky Stiff?

thatsshallot · 22/06/2015 21:23

Thank buggery for that

CoffeeTwo · 22/06/2015 21:23

oh thank god! Cake

InAndOfMyself · 22/06/2015 21:24

Phew! I hadn't even thought it might have been a phishing email.

cozietoesie · 22/06/2015 21:25

*Stuff

(I need that Gin smiley)

DonkeyOaty · 22/06/2015 21:25

X post with Ann

Thanks so much, phew!

JenniMoo · 22/06/2015 21:26

Thank you for replying, sorry for causing a panic ;)

OP posts:
AnnMumsnet · 22/06/2015 21:36

Oh yes the actual day of birth will be default to a random date as originally we didn't ask that so a random date was generated to work out approx age!

Ann

cozietoesie · 22/06/2015 21:43

It might be no bad thing to review procedures as th site grows, Ann. Perhaps a quick warning email in future notifying users of a mailshot coming up? And maybe an address to forward potentially dodgy emails to - eg [email protected] - for verification?

mejon · 22/06/2015 22:11

Thank buggery for that! It didn't occur to me that it could be a phishing exercise until I read this and I completed and returned it a couple of hours ago. Did notice that DC1's birthdate was out but I can see that MNHQ have explained why.

Uppatea · 23/06/2015 10:02

Doesn't anyone else wants to know why they want our mobile numbers?? I do.

AnnMumsnet · 23/06/2015 12:03

@Uppatea

Doesn't anyone else wants to know why they want our mobile numbers?? I do.

hiya - it's so if we need to contact folks who are doing a product test we can prod them if needed for feedback (if they don't respond to emails/ pms). If you don't want to give us it then please enter a 0. But we'd love it if possible!

sliceofsoup · 23/06/2015 12:20

I wondered the same about the mobile numbers. I gave mine because I hoped it falls under the usual MN policy that our info wont be sold to spammers.

Uppatea · 23/06/2015 19:55

Thanks Annmumsnet Smile

iklboo · 23/06/2015 19:57

Ah poop. I deleted mine thinking it might be scammage. There goes my big win Wink
