Not sure if it should go next to Sport or Exercise but there seems to be some interest based on This thread. Please if anyone reading would support it, post here to let MNHQ know how much interest there is. Names for it also welcome... the 'Weights Room' maybe?

I would support this idea too. I love weights and have finally got my wife to appreciate the importance of lifting.

I've been lifting for years and only in the last few have I noticed a very slow increase in the number of women in the free weights area. I believe more should follow and a forum could well help promote this.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 09/04/2015 02:06

Olivia, I started this thread a few days ago which appears to have got a bit of interest. I get the point about not wanting masses more topics but there really isn't anywhere else on the internet that offers a space for women who lift heavy to talk to each other. Would be great if MN could be that place….

FireCanal · 09/04/2015 02:26

I'd be happy to see this too. and could suggest a few threads to remove Grin

Yes please Smile

futopia is right. There is still a huge amount of women avoiding weights, alot of them because they don't feel its for them. And its awesome for women, we need to spread the word!!

BIWI · 09/04/2015 07:15

For a start, we could surely get rid of the Swine Flu topic? One in, one out Grin.

Sirzy · 09/04/2015 07:15

Surely if you go down this line you would need a seperate board for running, a seperate one for cycling etc etc?

BIWI · 09/04/2015 07:17

Well why not? They're totally different subjects, with different people likely to be interested in them.

No different from the weight loss boards, where there's one for 5:2, one for low carb, one for calorie counting, etc

BIWI · 09/04/2015 07:18

Why not lose MN Book Swap Clubs . Lost post there was 10 September 2014. So hardly a real need for that one.

Sirzy · 09/04/2015 07:19

I'm not saying it shouldn't happen, just thinking of the bigger picture - perhaps we need to find even more boards to cull!

BIWI · 09/04/2015 07:35

Will happily rise to that challenge!

Do we really need:

London 2012
Euro 2012
Commonwealth Games 2014

... to start with

MrsDesperado · 09/04/2015 08:21

I would like to see this too

justaweeone · 10/04/2015 12:47

Please !

ElizabethHoover · 10/04/2015 12:49

everyone just puts everything in AIBU anyway

Vivacia · 10/04/2015 13:14

Another vote for a Weights Room please. I agree with those posters saying that there's little provision on the net for women to discuss weight lifting, yet plenty to say that would require more than a single thread.

(I say this as someone who normally thinks less is more when it comes to forums).

BaconIsMyFriend · 10/04/2015 13:51

I'm more of lurker than anything but would join in with a weights room frequently. I too struggle with advice for women on the net with lifting. I'm quite new to it, and always keep an eye out here for people discussing weights etc. I like to see what others are doing and get any advice.

Jackiebrambles · 10/04/2015 13:56

I would support a weights room topic too. I've been on weight lifting forums before Iall the male dominated ones) but a MN one would be ace. People could then start a thread, post their progress and lifting stats and others could encourage/help and give advice etc.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 10/04/2015 13:58

Aye!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 10/04/2015 14:00

I lift too but apart feom bodybuilding dot com I found nothing. I followed few pages on twatbook but they are inactive!

Vivacia · 10/04/2015 14:35

FatherJacques?

Lillygolightly · 10/04/2015 20:29

Me too please!

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 10/04/2015 20:49

Ive been wanting to get into weights for a while now, but haven't a clue where to start. Would be good to ask for advice (TBH hadn't thought about starting in sports and exercise) as Im too nervous to use the free weights in the gym in case Im doing it wrong and people look at me and think "what is she doing - another woman who doesn't know how to lift a weight"

So Im in.

There are loads of topics/threads to get rid of. Perhaps if a topic hadn't been used in a year it should be scrapped. Have an annual cull MNHQ?

doggydaft · 11/04/2015 01:26

Great idea

DawnMumsnet · 12/04/2015 12:47

Thanks for your thoughts on this, everyone. We're still listening, so keep 'em coming. Smile
