Please, oh wise, kind and beneficent (not to mention beauteous and radiant) MNHQ can we please have lilac flowers for the 25th of May?
For those not in the know, on the Discworld, this is the date of The People's Glorious Revolution, when those killed doing their duty are remembered by their comrades.
In our world, many now support the idea, not just to remember the wonder that was Sir Terry Pratchett, but also to remember those whose lives are affected by Alzheimer's and to raise awareness of this hideous embuggerance.
It's only a little thing, but it would be a lovely little thing.

SteppeAwayFromTheKeyboard · 23/03/2015 15:03

What is the GNU thing?

Plonkysaurus · 23/03/2015 15:07

come on Tech, you can do it! This would be lovely.

TotallyBursar · 23/03/2015 15:10

Please Tech? You are ever so fabulous, really you are. The tennis club got balls. And Lilac once planted will take care of itself.

They rise arse up

StayingSamVimesGirl · 23/03/2015 15:36

Pleasepleasepleaseplease, wonderful Tech and equally wonderful Rebecca!!

BikketBikketBikket · 23/03/2015 18:16

Jasonandyawegunorts · 23/03/2015 18:20

What is the GNU thing?

From "Going Postal" Rob DeerHeart "Fell" while operating a clacks tower so the other Clacks operators added his name to the message header, meaning his name is always there going back and fourth and never forgotten:

G: send the message on
N: do not log the message
U: Bounce his name back again

There's a tale told in Ankh Morpork
Of men dashing, brave & bold
Who led the Revolution
Down old Treacle Mine Road
They fought for truth & justice
For those too proud to beg
For honest & freedom
And the occasional hard boiled egg

The war was hard & brutal
And seven lost their lives
But those seven are remembered
By those who still survive
In Small Gods Cemetery they gather
Each 25th of May
And solemnly wear a flower
For those who died that day

For the Watchmen & the jailer
Who battled side by side
For the freedom of the people
And the rise of Winder's tide
The survivors wear the lilac
As they loft a flowing cup
And sing with voices choking
How do they rise up rise up rise up....

PLEASE can we have lilac for 25 May MN??

DeladionInch · 23/03/2015 22:10

is anybody else slightly worried that a long thin pinkish thing might look a little rude? Grin

shadowfax07 · 24/03/2015 00:02

Please, Tech? Pretty please? Pretty, pretty please? Would bribery with biscuits help sway you? Grin

BankWadger · 26/03/2015 21:49

Bump and voting again.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/03/2015 02:17

We have time. It would be nice...

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 27/03/2015 02:51

Yes please (though not sure what the icon would actually look like!)

RebeccaMumsnet · 27/03/2015 10:30

This will be happening although is technically tricky and will change all past and present flowers lilac for a few days and they will revert to being normal flowers after the event but we are putting things in place to turn the Flowers lilac for a few days in May.

We will start a thread explaining at the time.

Thanks for the lovely idea all.

StayingSamVimesGirl · 27/03/2015 10:44

You are all wonderful, RebeccaMumsnet!! Thank you so much for this. Thanks

TheSweeper · 27/03/2015 11:33

Thank you SO much. I hope this will raise awareness and encourage further donations to Alzheimer research and care. Well done, MNHQ!

spiderlight · 27/03/2015 12:22

ArseForElbow · 27/03/2015 12:43

MrsCosmopilite · 27/03/2015 15:31

Thankyou MN!

I'm still sulking because my webpage host service doesn't allow the GNU plugin.

DoctorLawn · 27/03/2015 15:33

That's brilliant! Thank you Tech Smile

AdoraBell · 27/03/2015 15:46

landoflostcontent · 27/03/2015 15:58

That's lovely. I will be wearing the lilac on 25th May hopefully although it is budding already, it may be over before then
