Who here has had the experience of another poster appearing with a very similar name? Does it bother you? How do you/can you avoid being confused with the other poster?

I get mixed up between BlossomHill, Bloss, Flossam, and is there a Floss as well? I don't know

Mercy · 28/10/2006 22:18

Haha PF!

DG, am glad someone find me amusing!

Was also getting confused last night re Godisgood and all the name changes that ensued. So funny, some fantastically creative and funny people on MN!

DumbledoresGirl · 28/10/2006 22:19

Always Mercy dear heart!

I stick to the distinctive names. You won't find me talking to the mixed up ones.

rustycreakingdoorbear · 28/10/2006 22:44

Somone mistook me for gingerbear once, but if I dropped the bear I'd probably get mistaken for ruty!
I'm also a bit tired of my Halloween name, I'll be changing back on Wednesday - don't know if I'll do a Christmas one - can't think of anything clever.

nikkie · 28/10/2006 22:51

There was a Niki being contraversial a couple of weeks ago and I worried in case anyone thought it was me but didn't do anything about it.

handlemecarefully · 01/11/2006 22:54

I get a little peturbed when people address HairyMClary as hmc

ginmummy · 01/11/2006 23:02

I had a genuine mistake about a year or so ago when I was tuppenceworth and didn't realise there was also a mytwopenceworth, and people were getting us mixed up and insinuating that I was a troll. My reasons for choosing that name were absolutely genuine and as soon as it was pointed out to me I changed it.

Perhaps there should be a list of names where people new to the site can tell if their name is similar to an existing one, and perhaps there should also be a facility for changing names whilst retaining previous ones, for example MrsJohnCusack's name being hijacked during a temporary name change - could we have an option to change a name whilst keeping another regular one? Surely mn towers have access to our registration details and can tell who is who etc.

lemonaidtreasonandplot · 01/11/2006 23:15

ginmummy -- in principle you do retain your previous names when you change, so no one can grab your old name. MrsJohnCusack was the victim of a temporary blip in the technical stuff.

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 01/11/2006 23:19

yes, me too hmc - I get a bit unnerved when Humphreys Cushion or Humphreys Corner or Hoxton Chick get called HC.
or the other day aitch called herself harpsichordssomethingorother and someone calle her harpsichord which completely freaked me out

littlepiggie · 01/11/2006 23:36

all these name changes are no good with little sleep, although i fancy a change, been asking dh for a week for any ideas.

littlepiggie · 01/11/2006 23:39

how about littlepiggieplaysaharpsichordwithalemonaid?

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 01/11/2006 23:40
