Who here has had the experience of another poster appearing with a very similar name? Does it bother you? How do you/can you avoid being confused with the other poster?

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 28/10/2006 09:16

I've been confused by similar names lately eg dizzydesperatehousewife and desperatehousewife

xenia and xena

callisto and callista

Pixiefish · 28/10/2006 09:17

I'm just generally confused by people changing their names

zippitippitoes · 28/10/2006 09:18

I am too..even the haloween ones never mind complete changes I am still translating martianbishop back to happymerryberries in my head!

lucy5 · 28/10/2006 09:18

cece · 28/10/2006 09:18

there is a lulusmama!!!

we have bumped into each other twice!! which considering i post a lot!! is very little ..we had a giggle about it!
spookily her enough her DS and mine both have a nut allergy!

if we were always appearing on the same threads and it was really confusing...i'd probably think about changing or asking her if she was willing to !!

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 28/10/2006 09:56

well someone actually managed to STEAL my old name
they shouldn't have been able to but some sort of database glitch meant they nicked it whilst I was being MrsJohnCusack temporarily. And they haven't posted since I don't think, but now I can never get it back. Grrrrrrrrrrr
mind you everyone thought I was someone else when I had it anyway so perhaps it's all for the best

ghosty · 28/10/2006 09:59

There was a Ghost'something or other' (can't remember exactly what her name was) a while back who posted a contraversial thing (can't remember what about anymore either) and I wrote a disclaimer stating that I was me and this was someone else and I didn't share her views on this matter in any way ....

Now, where did I put my brian?

There was a freckles for a while. Not sure if she still posts though.

Earlybird · 28/10/2006 10:30

Interesting that most of you seem not-that-bothered when a similarly named poster appears.

Recently an earlysbird has been posting. I veer between a tolerant "we're generally not on the same threads" stance, and a childish "get your own name" reaction!

Blandmum · 28/10/2006 10:33

there was someone who was ?? merryberries when I was happymerryberries, or was she berries, I can't remember (old age honest)

Not sure if she stopped posting, but I bacme Martian bishop anyway (not because of her name I felt like a change)

Zipi LOL I've been changed for ages now!

Flamesparrow · 28/10/2006 10:44

Who were you MrsJC? (I know I KNOW this answer, but brain is uselss.)

I am still stamping my feet that I can't just be Flame

zippitippitoes · 28/10/2006 10:47

I did notice there was an increase in zippi names, but rationalised that either people know me and we post differently or they don't know me and therefore who cares...I think it's different if someone with a similar name posts stuff you vehemently abhorr and people think it's you

LadyUndetrun · 28/10/2006 10:48

lol lulu - i love that you assume they would change, not you...

lulumama · 28/10/2006 10:53

thanks lady.....well 'ard me....!

i'm far too well known to change now, dahlink....!!!!!

HumphreyComfrey · 28/10/2006 10:54

I started off as HumphreyCushion, and later saw that there is a poster called HumphreysCorner.

I've bumped into her on a discussion about Halloween names, and she didn't say anything about my name being so similar, and I hope she's not cross.

I think we post on mainly different subjects, so it's not a problem.

Hope so, anyway!

(It's taken me ages to type this, so apologies if HumphreysCorner has posted in the meantime to say how cross she is with me! )

Would never do that...

Flamesparrow · 28/10/2006 11:00

Humphreycomphrey... I thought you were Humphreyscorner

lulumama · 28/10/2006 11:01

brave flamedragon!!!!!!

agree with zippi...only really an issue if a similarly named poster is saying things you would never say or sh*t stirring....

HumphreyComfreyCushion · 28/10/2006 11:04

Oh dear, Flame.

I don't think I've said anything terribly awful though, so it shouldn't be a problem.
