I don't mind if it is the case but i can't help wondering if it is to enable more advertising - ie figleaves in breast/bottle feeding and wwf in pets etc. Just seems there are a few topics i wouldn't really consider, well necessary!

Nope, it's not for that. Every week we are asked to add new topics. When we have a meeting we discuss all the requests that have come in. Only those that fit the MN criteria get the green light. Far more are turned down than get through.

You'll just have to wait and see. It's like Christmas. Although, obviously, MN isn't just for Christmas. That would be cruel.
