Can we opt out of the sounds on adverts?

Twice today, I've been having a deliberately quiet laptop session when suddenly I've had noisy MN advert soundtracks start going - very disconcerting and definitely unwanted. Is there a way to opt out of the soundtracks?

I'm not someone to keep on complaining about stuff. But these adverts are making MN an increasingly impossible place to be.

Strepsils tonight

And now Lemsip again. It's been OK all day, just started again now

My nerves are in shreds with the noise, and they are just so very determined to play, seems impossible to turn them off.
It's certainly taking away a lot of the pleasure of just browsing MN.

And now there's an ebay one on auto-play.

Really annoying.

If you use Firefox as your browser you can get an add-on called Adblock Edge which will hide all advertising, it is wonderful.

Yes, it seemed to stop for a while for me (the past few days) now it's back with avengeance on AIBU - three different adverts just pinging off randomly when I'm nowhere near them with my mouse so to speak. If you click to stop it it takes you to their advert page.

I've just re-activated ad-blocker, hoping that will take care of it.

catsofa · 27/11/2014 22:07

If you haven't used it for a while you might find that the old Adblocker/plus isn't as good as it used to be. Adblock Edge is the latest and best version of the same add-on, and works like a dream. Enjoy Smile

I've just had another one for Cillit Bang.
