The Mumsnet Secret Santa - donations needed!

HO HO HO!

We hope you've seen the thread started by SantaSandyMumsnet about this year's Mumsnet Secret Santa, and if you're anything like us, you'll be full to the brim with festive good will and excitement about the whole thing Grin

We've now closed the nominations page - a huge thank you to everyone who has got involved so far. At the moment we're about 50 donations short, so that's why we're asking everyone to put on their Christmas thinking caps, and see if there's anything they can contribute.

If you're not in the position to donate then do not worry at all - we quite understand that not everyone can. If you feel able to, you can make your donation here. Donations usually come in around the £10 mark, but anything above or below this is still very much welcome. Any gift big or small, second hand or new, is truly treasured - and will make a big difference to someone's Christmas.

Thank you again to everyone who has nominated and donated - we've got a feeling this is going to be one of the best years yet Flowers

I'm a little unclear about the timing of things eg when I need to send my gifts in and giving the names of who To donate to

Eg I haven't sent the name of the 2nd donation, I'm clueless as I haven't this before! Sorry x

MyGhostIsFlummoxed · 30/10/2014 21:26

I'm happy to donate but haven't got a fricken clue what to donate-I assumed once you got your nominee you decided then Confused

cozietoesie · 30/10/2014 21:44

You might well do it that way, MyGhost. Some people have something they already know that they'd like to donate and some people haven't and decide once the spirit moves them. Don't worry.

Donated, got to help Santa get organised:D HoHoHo

cozietoesie · 30/10/2014 21:50

Here's some of the detailed guidance, daisychain01. MNHQ will give you the name of your nominee and some basic facts that they've been allowed to share - and if they do what they did last year will also give you a lovely pre-formatted label to affix to your parcel. You then get your gift together and send it off directly to the nominee.

Any problems or anxieties and I'm sure a quick email to [email protected] will sort things out. Smile

cozietoesie · 30/10/2014 21:53

PS - sorry, I meant that they send you the label format electronically and already filled in etc. You'll have to print it off yourself if you want to use it.

PiggyPlumPie · 30/10/2014 22:00

I've just donated too! Grin

BOOreOfWOOObylon · 30/10/2014 22:35

I've already donated but have done so again!

SallyBear · 31/10/2014 00:12

Very happy to donate this year. Please PM me. Thanks.

TheysayIamparanoid · 31/10/2014 00:42

Donated, now I feel all christmassy! Grin

BathshebaDarkstone · 31/10/2014 06:13

Truly wish I could donate. Sad

EnterNicknameHere · 31/10/2014 07:56

Donated :)

cozietoesie · 31/10/2014 09:28

There will be other years, Bathsheba. Your thoughts are enough to contribute to the good cheer for now.

I hope I have offered twice now but am never confident wirh technology. When do we find out if our offers have been accepted?

cozietoesie · 31/10/2014 09:38

MNHQ should email you with the details, thegreylady - although I guess it may be a day or two yet. (It sounds as if they've managed to keep the spreadsheet off the gin this year but it must still be a bit hot and heavy up there at the moment.)

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 31/10/2014 10:13

I've already donated but am happy to do so again Smile

ViperActive · 31/10/2014 10:41

I just made a donation, think it's a lovely idea and in a way I feel selfish (like phoebe from friends) as I feel good for doing so!!!Wink

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 31/10/2014 12:44

MyGhost - I filled in the donation form just saying basically that I would donate a gift for a MNer and 3 gifts for DCs. Adding that I would actually buy them when I knew who I was sending to.

Something along those lines anyway...

MrsWembley · 31/10/2014 18:42

Bugger bugger bugger, just seen this and realised I haven't put my name down for donating yet! I'll RTFT see what you need from donators but if it's just a case of letting you know here then count me in!

curiousgeorgie · 31/10/2014 21:17

I have a few huge toys in amazing condition I'm getting rid of but think the postage would be extortionate... Can we possibly work out if there's a slightly local mumsnetter and I could drive it there? I was going to donate them via my cousin who is a nurse to the local hospital but they've stopped accepting toy donations for the time being...

curiousgeorgie · 31/10/2014 21:18

I think the toys in the boxes (and a lot are brand new) come to about 50 different presents actually...

Flisspaps · 31/10/2014 22:49

What part of the site is the donations thread in? I am on the app and need to login to find the thread via the link and have had a brain fart at what my password is. Have looked in site stuff and Christmas...

cozietoesie · 31/10/2014 23:36

Why not email HQ and ask them, georgie ? ([email protected]) They might have to get back to you and say that it would be just too much to organize/a logistical nightmare/not the direction to go in or something but then at least you'd know.

On the other hand, you could start a thread - someone else might suggest an appropriate board - asking for ideas about finding them a good home. If they're in great condition, it would be dreadful if they had to be binned.

cozietoesie · 31/10/2014 23:40

It's on the first page of Site Stuff, Fliss.
