Ios7
Safari

Just gave it a break for a week hoping that most of the shitness would have been ironed out, tried it again, tried to post and the site just freezes if I try to post. Endless spinny wheel of loading but no load.

You have made the mobile site unusable for me and thousands others for the past ten days. I mean literally unusable, not just annoyingly crap. What the fucking fuck were you playing at? This mobile site is a total pile of shit. Sorry, but it is. All the crap changes to functionality were bad enough, the knock on effect on the desktop site was annoying, but this is actually unusable. I can't use the desktop site on my mobile as it's too small so I can't use it. Pissed off.

Hi Ehric. Soooo sorry for the stress caused to you - and many other MNers - by the woebile mobile site. Sad

We have been logging all the glitches, complaints, preferences etc. and Tech is working flat out fix all the issues that have come up.

This response from JessicaMumsnet explains a bit about what's been going on behind the scenes and what we're aiming for, and there will be more info available shortly. In the meantime, we will add your comments to our very long list and try to address them.

Hello Ehric, thank you for taking the time to read my other post.

The current mobile design is more modern and we understand that it isn't your cup of tea. We've gone through many iterations of design and continue to make changes so we appreciate you giving it another go. Thanks

We care very much for existing users, whether they regularly post, prefer to lurk or just occasionally dip in. For that reason we include lots of different kinds of users in our testing. We do also care about people who are just discovering Mumsnet, after all we were all new once!

The mobile site did have a number of problems when it was first released and despite our tests we didn't anticipate some of the issues. We've taken a good hard look at our process and made some improvements to ensure that doesn't happen again.

We have worked hard to tackle issues including on phones that are only used by a small proportion of mumsnetters and we're pleased that for most people the site is working as expected.

I'm sorry to hear that isn't the case for you though, could you tell me what phone you are using and what browser and we'll investigate for you.

Thank you

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 13:52

Hello again, sorry not sure how I missed that! Blush

We're not able to replicate any freezing on the iPhone 5, safari but happy to continue to investigate to get it fixed for you.

Does it happen on all threads or just long ones? Are you able to post on this thread for example?

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 15:05

Okay thanks Ehric for trying again, that sounds unusual and alas frustrating for us not to be able to replicate it so we can fix.

We understand if you'd rather not but if you wouldn't mind running through some more things for us it might help us diagnose what's happening for you.

Firstly are you on cellular data or wifi?
Can you confirm what URL you are trying to access when it endlessly loads?

What action (if any) did you take just before you got the spinning wheel?

Thank you!

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 15:06

We do have lots of people of successfully posting from iPhones so we are really keen to see what's unusual about your particular device, network, settings or usage.

Hi oodlives,
Thank you for coming on to let us know, could one of you be so kind as to check which precise iOS version it is? 7.1.2 for example?

(just for our own peace of mind this post is posted from an iPhone 5, safari)

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 16:00

Thank you Ehric, especially for the extra info. I have a theory which I'm about to try out. Bear with me...

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 16:05

Well I think I may have cracked it... Looking at your URL I spotted it started with m.mumsnet.com instead of www.mumsnet.com.

Have a try at this url:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2171325-Mobile-site-still-freezing-on-my-phone?

If that works for you I think we might have got to the bottom of it

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 17:11

@EhricLovesTheBhrothers

Yes, I probably did mean to be so rude. I might not have been so rude if I had been less cross but to find that after ten days the site was still unusable ( and yes, if I can't post I can't use it) made me really pissed off. To mnhq, I do apologise for my extraneous swearing if not the sentiment. I still think it was bizarre to roll out a site that had so very many flaws and I'm not sure I accept the excuse that they weren't anticipated, really, testing should have ironed out most of them. I'm about to test the change to the URL, fingers crossed!

Hi Ehric, thank you. We do understand your frustration.

We did do countless rounds of testing and with many users of varying types on lots of different devices but unfortunately there were some things we didn't anticipate and others we couldn't fully uncover until the fuller user base was trying it out. All that said we acknowledge the timing wasn't ideal and we could have more responsive in the first 24 hours. We've taken a hard look at our processes internally and we have made changes to make sure that won't happen again.

We do want to continue involving mumsnetters as much as possible though both in our testing and prototypes which means we will continue to iterate and ask for feedback and our first releases are unlikely to be the finished product as such.

Thank you for sticking by us Thanks
