Some of MNHQ are going to be getting very muddy and sweaty to raise funds for Refuge!

At MNHQ, we like a good challenge. And without sounding too sanctimonious, we also like to help a good cause - and if it's a cause that we know the discerning Mumsnet masses would approve of, it's even better. That's why when Refuge got in touch asking if anyone from Mumsnet wanted to create a team to take part in Mudderella, we leapt at the chance (after finishing our Cake and Brew).

On August 30, a crack team from MNHQ will be running possibly ambling towards the end a 5-7 mile obstacle course to raise money for Refuge. Our mildly Herculean and completely lovely team consists of (drum roll please): StuartMumsnet, ZoeMumsnet, RachelCMumsnet, TinaMumsnet, KateSMumsnet and MichelleMumsnet.

Refuge do fantastic work helping woman and children who have experienced domestic violence; you can read more about their work here.

So if you can (and as ever, please only if you can afford it), we'd be over the moon if you could contribute to our fundraising here. We'd be hugely grateful for any sum, however small.

If you aren't able to donate (and we do completely understand that it's not always possible), then we're also very much in the market for messages of support, motivational GIFs, MNHQ avatars constructed from emoticons, and (almost) anything else - so as ever please use this thread as you see fit...

With the power of Mumsnet behind us, going down a giant slide into a pit of muddy water won't be scary at all.

Thanks and HWURGH

For the record, wheelbarrow races are actually one of the obstacles...

...as are piggybacks

StuartMumsnet · 19/08/2014 17:03

As the only bloke on the team, and the only team member north of 13 stone, the look on everyone else's faces at the realisation that one of them was going to have to give me a piggy back was a joy to behold.

However Michelle made light work of it and pretty much sprinted off with me holding on for dear life.

Definitely the first time I've been given a piggy back in the last 30+ years, and definitely the first time I've been given a piggy back by a girl probably nearly 20 years younger than me.

Thanks so much for all the financial support. It means a lot - we'll do our best to do credit to it. Now, off to practice my woeful wheelbarrow technique. I was always more of an egg and spoon specialist at sports day...

caramelwaffle · 19/08/2014 21:40

Good luck.

ChazzerChaser · 19/08/2014 21:45

Children are expected to give piggy backs to adults?! That doesn't sound fair.

MichelleMumsnet · 20/08/2014 16:29

My shoulders are sore too, Tina Sad

Thank you everyone for all your wonderful support, it's really lovely Thanks. We'll all do our best and I'm going to hope that the piggy backs obstacle isn't at the end when I've lost all my energy and Stuart and I both run the risk of falling face first into the mud!

Tanacot · 21/08/2014 18:00

Good luck!!

Plonkysaurus · 21/08/2014 18:39

Shit.

Me and another MNetter might have slightly accidentally signed up for this a little bit. We are a team of two. You'll see us dead 100 metres after the start.

TobyZiegler · 22/08/2014 08:41

Good luck Team MN we want to see photos! Grin

GarlicAugustus · 22/08/2014 09:49

Wow! Just looked at the site - that's some serious strong!

Well done, all of you, and good luck Grin Please keep your JustGiving appeal open - I'll donate something when I have something, and I'm sure lots of other MNers will after you post your muddy updates Flowers

RachelCMumsnet · 22/08/2014 19:16

We're hoping there's going to be even better than pictures - video!

How fantastic! If you see a group of five girls and one bloke looking clueless and nervous - that'll be us. Come over and say hello!

TheMasterMumsnet · 27/08/2014 10:03

KateSMumsnet · 28/08/2014 16:19

EllenMumsnet · 30/08/2014 17:12

Any news yet?! Have you made it over the finishing line?

RachelCMumsnet · 30/08/2014 18:40

Mission accomplished I'm happy to report! We had a fantastic time, there'll be pics and vid to come but right now I for one will be pouring myself a large Wine and crawling into bed!

StuartMumsnet · 30/08/2014 19:33

It was great fun, but the bruises are coming out now and I still stink of farms, even after a bath. Takeaway, wine, bed...

RachelCMumsnet · 30/08/2014 21:29

Same Stuart; I had the best bath ever but am still catching occasional whiffs of pigsty! Elbows and knees are a right mess too!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/08/2014 22:22

Well done, MNHQ... WineBrewThanksCakeTennis

Now... were you ALL wearing Flares or were you not? Grin

Congrats to all of you! Thanks

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/08/2014 22:23

Why has that ball gone in there?

Did you see Harvey? That's what I want to know!

Congrats to all of you! Thanks

I was wearing quite a loose fitting, almost boot leg cut trew, which turned out to be an error. Got very muddy and they were flapping around making squelchy noises. It was bloody good fun though Grin

THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored us - so far we've raised a whopping £903 for Refuge and we're absolutely thrilled Flowers Flowers

We're over the £1000 mark! Thanks so much - I think we're all hurting a bit today, so this makes it worthwhile.

RachelCMumsnet · 03/09/2014 10:38

So thrilled to have more than doubled our original target! Thank you so much for everyone's support, financial and otherwise. We're leaving the fundraising page open a while longer so there's still time if you want to sponsor us! To whet your appetite for the video, here are some pics from the day.
