Pointing out irrelevant spelling errors....

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2014 11:08

Can this be made 'against Talk Guidelines' please? Where the spelling error is pointed out but everyone knew full well what was meant?

I can then report.

TIA

Oh yes please!

But there need to be a few exceptions. Surely it's only right to point out devestated when applied to something deeply trivial and dicsgusted when applied to something quite normal that has upset a hyacinth bucket? Grin

I only meant the MC Hammer picture. I didn't realise there was a clip. Someone watch it and tell me if it's very offensive and rude? I will ask for it to be deleted if so.

I always picture these smug tits chortling and giving themselves a congratulatory hug every time they manage to demonstrate just how clever they are by shitting all over some poor person's thread.

i have just walked in on dp half naked spanking my own mother who was just wearing carpet slippers and they was doing on my bed. I am deverstated. We have a newborn and a toddler.

I think you'll find it is "were doing it on my bed" and it is "devastated"

Sorry that was me on the stationary reception kids thread, wasn't it? I just had a mental image of a poor teacher trying to get a bunch of small children to keep still.

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2014 17:44

Smile No worries Mardy at least you haven't linked to the most offensive You Tube clip ever eh? Sad

If everyone reports my MC Hammer post will it go quicker?

Grin iK8

Why hasn't anyone popped up defending their right to educate others? Isn't that the standard defence? Then others, who must also be spelling police, say "oh yes, I would much rather be corrected than spend my whole life thinking it was devestated - far more important than my mother's thing for being spanked whilst wearing slippers."

dyslexicdespot · 08/08/2014 17:49

Yes, please- I want a 'spelling wanker' button!

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2014 17:49

I do vaguely remember a thread where people said they wanted to be told Fox. I can't imagine why they want to be told off on MN.

You're not allowed to talk about anything that is identifiable as having been posted by another MNetter anywhere on MN in Pedants's Corner anymore (they get deleted).

There was a huge number of threads about SPAG a few weeks ago, and even one "anti-pedant" poster stating she was on a mission to drive out unacceptable posters (and she seemed to have cronies).

Face it, this is nothing whatsoever to do with SPAG. It's about bullying.

Both the pedants and the anti-pedants are bullies. And everyone should cut it out.

MNHQ can do that with existing talk guidelines.

But whether posters have faith in that does depend on speed and consistency of deletions.

snice · 08/08/2014 17:55

I assumed mardy's post was a joke and not meant in a mean spirited way

FoxSticks · 08/08/2014 18:24

I didn't see Mardy's post but have seen this going on a fair bit on mn - I'm sure Sparkling hasn't posted this on the back of one occurrence.

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2014 18:28

I obviously saw and posted on the stationery thread but I have seen it over and over. I have been on MN for 3 years and I don't think it's got worse particularly.
I just cringe a bit when I see it. if I spot the 'error' I can almost see the comments before they are posted IYKWIM. It's like I am waiting for it.

We have noticed this is becoming a bit of a problem and while we, as MNHQ, can't label anyone as a tithead, we will have a think about whether we need to deal with it in a different way.

Ooh, someone is correcting stationery on a thread I'm on. What can I do?

Sparklingbrook · 10/08/2014 17:17

Link to this thread? Unless that would make you look worse than them? Sad
