Average age of first-time mothers is now 30 - how old were you?

Hello all

Research published yesterday shows that the average British woman is now having her first child at the age of 30 - and we wondered whether this matches MNers' own experiences. So do share your thoughts - are you bang on average, or under, or over? Does it matter - and would you make the same decision again, given the chance?

I was 21 just shy of 22. In a long term relationship and financially stable. Was not planned but would not change my daughter for the world.

Haven't RTFT so apologies if this has been said, but it is odd to see so many mentions of mortgages in answer to the question 'how old were you when you had your first child?'

UnderEstherMate · 29/07/2014 19:10

Arsenic it's because only the rich-enough and "old-enough" are suitable to have children. Everyone else should be ashamed Hmm

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/07/2014 19:13

Ah yes. Obvious when you put it like that Under Wink

Owllady · 29/07/2014 19:35

I had a mortgage when I was 19
Went into rented at 32
All a mortgage means, especially a huge one, is the house belongs to the bank

Sallystyle · 29/07/2014 22:08

Two days before I turned 18.
