Giving Week is here: donate funds to MNer-nominated organisations and MNHQ will match them!

Hello all

As you may remember, a wee while back we asked you to nominate your favourite charities and related organisations for the inaugural Mumsnet Giving Week. Well - the nominations are in, the shortlist has been drawn up and Mumsnet Giving week starts here!

First, a thank you: you suggested an amazing selection of worthy organisations, and choosing just five was, as you can imagine, an astonishingly difficult task. In the end, though, we settled on the following:

Women's Aid
Free Cakes for Kids
Woolly Hugs
Haven House
PDA Society

As of now, the Yimby and Just Giving fundraising pages are ready to take your donations. And remember, we’ll be matching whatever money you raise, up to the combined total of £25k (we thought we’d better set some sort of limit in case one of you turns out to be fabulously wealthy and decides to drop a million quid - which would, of course, be amazing, but might leave us scrabbling around a bit come payday Grin)

We’re mindful that most of you won’t be able to donate large amounts, of course - but small amounts are extremely welcome! And if you’d like to help out in other ways (we really don’t want anyone to feel bad about not being able to donate), we’d be very grateful for any noise you can make via Facebook, Twitter etc etc: the best place to link to to explain the whole project is here and the hashtag is #MumsnetGiving.

Thanks very much - here’s to raising lots of money for some brilliant causes.

Donated and bumping.

Ive donated to womens aid. I'm grateful to be happy, safe and loved this beautiful Sunday afternoon, hopefully these donations mean happy, safe and carefree afternoons for women and children in vulnerable situations.

ineedausername · 08/06/2014 15:30

Is the women's aid one just in England?

CiderwithBuda · 08/06/2014 15:31

I've just donated too. Hadn't really been paying much attention to the whole thing and didn't realise there was a cut off.

HPparent · 08/06/2014 15:46

Just made a small donation to Women's Aid.

GetKnitted · 08/06/2014 16:08

A small donation was all I could afford this week. Thank you for turning it into a medium donation

HermioneWeasley · 08/06/2014 16:23

Just donated to women's' aid - can't believe it's only a third of target.

Anyway, YABU because I didn't even have to get off my arse to do it. Arse cheeks remained firmly squished on the ground while I did it all through the miracle of PayPal.

GarlicJuneBlooms · 08/06/2014 16:30

Just bumped Women's Aid a bit. Thanks for doubling my bit, Mumsnet ?

Ragwort · 08/06/2014 16:58

I know this sounds pathetic but sorting out how to do a donation on line doesn't suit everyone me I would happily bung a cheque in the post rather than spend 20 minutes trying to set up something, use a password etc etc.

So, what is the address to send a cheque to please?

gallicgirl · 08/06/2014 17:02

I just did it online on my phone and it was really quick. Less than 5 minutes and very easy.

AllBoxedUp · 08/06/2014 17:12

Just donated. Thank you for highlighting this add I hadn't seen it. You can choose not to set up a password. It's really easy if you have paypal and marginally more time consuming to use a bank card.

Ragwort · 08/06/2014 17:44

I haven't got paypal, I just want to send a cheque, I will send it direct to the charity I am supporting, it may not appear as a 'mumsnet' donation but I will put a covering letter in with it.

luddite emoticon.

GlaikitFizzog · 08/06/2014 18:08

You don't need paypal ragwort, you can use a debit or credit card.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 08/06/2014 20:53

Done! :)

KarinMurphy · 08/06/2014 21:18

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'd missed it entirely. Have now made a small donation to Women's Aid.

CQ · 08/06/2014 21:23

What QisforQCumber said ^^

Happy that my donation is worth double thanks to the generosity of Mumsnet Smile

mum2jakie · 08/06/2014 22:11

Thanks Mumsnet. Women's Aid is now over the halfway mark and Haven Hospice has raised 98% of their target. Hope we can get there.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/06/2014 22:43

100% now for Haven House mum2jakie Yey Smile

mum2jakie · 08/06/2014 22:49

That's great news! £10,000 raised for the Hospice with the added Mumsnet donation!

Women's Aid is still creeping up. 54% now...

cozietoesie · 09/06/2014 08:54

Out of interest, does anyone know whether MNHQ will be matching the total including the Gift Aid amounts? (They may not have considered that one.)

KatieMumsnet · 09/06/2014 10:43

Hi there

Just to say it's 1030 now - totals are now in.

Women's Aid - £2,798.93
Free Cakes for Kids - £444
Woolly Hugs - £1,280
Haven House - £5,006.50
PDA Society - £1,773.00

Total - £11,302.43

Total, once matched by Mumsnet £22,604.86

Thank you so much to all who pledged. So kind of you and will mean so much to these charities. We'll keep you posted as the projects develop.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Anyone is free to still keep giving, but at this point we'll end the match funding.

Best

K

MoominAndMiniMoom · 09/06/2014 10:49

well done mumsnet Thanks

one question, I donated to Cakes for Kids yesterday, and it said that if they don't reach their target, they won't get a penny. is this true?

KatieMumsnet · 09/06/2014 11:04

Hi MoominAndMiniMoom, once we add our donation Free Cakes for Kids will be at £888, so need to find £112 to reach target. They can keep the page live for as long as they like, and we'll keep sharing, so hopefully they can get there pretty soon.

Having a target is the way Yimby work -as they're very project focussed and don't for eg want to fund half a church roof.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 09/06/2014 11:27

Just wondering if you might consider extending match funding for the three projects that are with Yimby MNHQ - so those with a definite target - until those targets are reached?

I think it would only be Free Cakes For Kids that aren't quite there yet, so would only cost you a potential additional 50 or so? (56 to be precise)

Just an idea as I know it's a new thing for us all. You may not want to set that precedent though in which case fair enough - you've already been very generous.

Would be nice to see Free Cakes make their target too though Thanks

JustineMumsnet · 09/06/2014 11:58

Hiya,
Just to confirm we'll make up the cash to make sure Free Cakes for Kids reaches target and gets all the money that's been pledged.
