Darling MNHQ, please, please, please could you arrange for the Biscuit Emoticon to fucking do one?

HoneyDragon · 02/04/2014 19:41

Really, please, just make it go.

If people don't wish to comment, than they can simply

Not write anything at all

Or it's meant to be sneery.

Or someone misunderstands it and offers it nicely with tea. And then gets flounced at with impunity. As no one really knows whether it's offensive or not.

In fact there are so many interpretations of what the biscuit means according to each individual, that technically you could probably have an entire thread using only the biscuit, with each poster making a unique comment.

There's another election due soon, it stopped being ironic and funny about 5 months after the thread that birthed it.

Seriously, just retire it.

I'm sick of trying to figure out why someone may have posted a biscuit. Post something clever, post something stupid. But don't post Gordens fucking biscuit Angry

Ah ok, get it now.

Innogen · 03/04/2014 00:44

A cheese! Please!

To go with all the wine. Or when someone saying something particularly cheesy.

JustineMumsnet · 03/04/2014 08:56

Well, can't change the biscuit into a random something else - that wouldn't make any sense imho - at least there is some rationale for the biscuit. We could retire it from the list of emoticons showing - so only those really in know would use - but that would prob cause even more confusion.

So our choices are to disable entirely or to offer a bit more explanation/historical context so more folks understand it's provenance/usage...

LineRunner · 03/04/2014 08:58

I love the word provenance.

Pagwatch · 03/04/2014 09:02

If there has to be a reason for the alternative then let it be an asshat.
It's simple . I'm not going to comment other than to say asshat.

Or a pile of steaming horse crap?

Or [jeez] . That could be a tiny Jesus . That wouldn't upset anyone.

But yes - biscuit begone.

And the fucking winky thing that used to mean ponders and now means sceptical.

What, Hmm? It's always meant sceptical.

OwlCapone · 03/04/2014 09:06

The bear is, IMO, first up against the wall come the revolution. It is meaningless. Biscuit does at least have a meaning.

I like the biscuit. I've never handed one out (yet) but I think it makes a statement.

I do know how it came about but I think it's evolved into a general "you take the biscuit" kind of thing, which makes sense.

Although I'm not sure why it's a jammy dodger.

Pagwatch · 03/04/2014 09:11

No. Winky thing used to mean sceptical, now means 'you lying/stupid twat'

ExcuseTypos · 03/04/2014 09:19

I suppose hmmm can be interpreted in different ways depending on the context. It could mean 'I'm pondering" or it could mean "Really??? You lying twat"

It's quite a mind field.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 03/04/2014 09:21

HoneyDragon you are simultaneously an old gimmer and childish along with entitled, selfish, demanding and wanting to change the entire ethos and foundation of the site by starting a thread in Site Stuff asking for a change

Grin
OwlCapone · 03/04/2014 09:23

In the early days of Mumsnet it meant ponders

No, in the early days of MN it didn't exist.

ExcuseTypos · 03/04/2014 09:23

It would be great o have a goady fucker picture thingy.

It would cause any arguments at all.

ExcuseTypos · 03/04/2014 09:23

Wouldn't!

AlpacaYourThings · 03/04/2014 09:29

The biscuit is pointless, IMO.

Pagwatch · 03/04/2014 09:33

What about a teeny tiny troll under a teeny bridge?

TantrumsAndBalloons · 03/04/2014 09:35

It would be a lot easier to stop using little emoticons and just typing- you are a twat. And I dont believe you.
Much easier Grin

ExcuseTypos · 03/04/2014 09:39

Yes, a tiny tiny troll under a tiny tiny bridge would be great and not at all controversial. It would be so much simpler than reporting and arguing.

Come on MNHQ you know you want to.

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 03/04/2014 09:48

^^ This.

Emoticons are there to show emotion, I think? So sometimes I put a big Grin if I'm really happy, or a Sad if I'm .. sad. So all of the faces, IMO have their uses.

The flowers, cake, wine and cuppa are good for offering comfort to someone who is going through a hard time. OK I know they're just pictures, but it's nice when someone offers you one.

The biscuit is there to be passive aggressive. No other reason. If you want to be PA to someone, find some other way to use it with words. You're not big or clever to give someone a picture of a jammy dodger.

I still want a Vom face though! No good changing the meaning of the green envy one, I want a little face with open mouth with puke coming out!

HoneyDragon · 03/04/2014 09:49

I don't want MORE emoticon I just want the biscuit retired, mafia style.

HoneyDragon you are simultaneously an old gimmer and childish along with entitled, selfish, demanding and wanting to change the entire ethos and foundation of the site by starting a thread in Site Stuff asking for a change

No one needs bother accusing me of this Maryz (unlike others accused Wink), they already know. It would be like accusing a table of being a table.

I'd love a little cartoon pair of dangly bollocks. For when people are spouting bollocks.

skinnyflatwhite · 03/04/2014 11:42

I didn't know it was a biscuit. I thought it was a daisy. I only eat Kit-Kats so that's maybe why. Could you do a Kit-Kat?

OwlCapone · 03/04/2014 13:43

Why did you think you had to type [ biscuit ] for a daisy?

I would like a goat icon for goady threads.
