Er I hope it doesn't come to this but where would we all go if mumsnet closed?

Seriously. OK so we'll do all we can to prevent that happening and so will Mumsnet HQ but what if the worst happens? Will we all have to talk to our husbands? Or descend on BadMothersClub? Seriously, we should have a place planned to 'meet' if we all log on one morning and it's not here. Shouldn't we?

Baby change facilities, free nappies (reusable AND eco-disposable to keep everyone happy), coffee, cakes you name it.

Name changed from MumsnetLibraryGroup to MumsnetSupportGroup now anyway

agree with Kaloo

I think we should consider the possibility of mn closing a real one. It's not just about nobody threatening to have the site closed, it's about nobody taking mn to court, this has already been threatened, so imo I believe she will follow it through, after all, backing down in the face of adverse publicity would show her to be in the wrong and imo I don't think that's likely to happen. It's about mn having the funding to cover a court case, and from what is reported they dimply don't have that, and the only option for them would then be to close the site. It's a horrible horrible thought, but is one which I think we should consider. i don't think we should be looking to go elsewhere just yet though - we should stick here through everything and hope for the best possible outcome.

HappyDaddy · 08/08/2006 14:34

You can all come round to mine.

flashingnose · 08/08/2006 14:35

I knew your post was going to say that HD

Piffle · 08/08/2006 14:35

We have the mother of all whip rounds and set it up again on another ISP, preferably a US one and charge a subscription fee
One could not put a price on how valuable a site this is to me. Dp said the same thing.

wannaBe1974 · 08/08/2006 14:40

how many people would seriously pay a subscription though, and how much would we have to make it to keep the site going? With thousands of members you need a lot of server space, bandwidth etc, how easy would it be to get advertising - is it likely that companies would be more reluctant to advertise given the circumstances in which this site might have to close?

Really I'm not trying to be the harbenger of doomb but it's really not as straightforward as opening the site somewhere else.

Piffle · 08/08/2006 14:41

notoriety is not always a bad thing re advertisers FWIW

wannaBe1974 · 08/08/2006 14:41

also, if, heaven forbid, nobody succeeded in her court action, the site "mumsnet" might be prevented from existing, as "mumsnet" would be linked to those defamatory comments. We would have to totally rebrand.

SaintGeorge · 08/08/2006 14:43

We could be Mumnset instead since that's how I always seem to manage to type it.

ToodlePip123 · 08/08/2006 15:08

Could og here

nutcracker · 08/08/2006 16:29

I don't think i'd go anywhere else, because anywhere else isn't MN is it. This is MN and I like it where it is.

katierocket · 08/08/2006 16:35

The only plus side to this though is that PRwise, it would be a really really bad move for nobody to take this through the courts. It really could impact very badly. If I was her PR bod I would definitely advise against it. Mind you if I was her PR bod it would never have come to this! No comment is always the worse thing you can do.

Uwila · 09/08/2006 15:32

What do you mean by no comment. Have you seen her website?
