Er I hope it doesn't come to this but where would we all go if mumsnet closed?

Seriously. OK so we'll do all we can to prevent that happening and so will Mumsnet HQ but what if the worst happens? Will we all have to talk to our husbands? Or descend on BadMothersClub? Seriously, we should have a place planned to 'meet' if we all log on one morning and it's not here. Shouldn't we?

just had one of those experiences where you post on a thread that gets deleted just as you click to post message..glad to find everything else still here

think we should tiidy up all these lurid sex threads though stick them under the sofa cushions or something as no doubt we are having visitors

Uwila · 08/08/2006 10:00

Oh, we like visitors. Join the CAT facility. Hand in your £5 and support our beloved Mumsnet!!

Could we start advertising Mumsnet in maternity wards? Antenatal classes? Put little post it stickies in all of NOBODY's books in Waterstones and any other bookstores?

Oh oh oh.... have we hit babycentre.co.uk??

UCM · 08/08/2006 10:05

I hope that if the unthinkable does happen, we won't have to join another one, just regroup there whilst a new 'Vipersnest.com' is set up. I for one would be willing to contribute to help regroup.

I have been off sick from work for weeks now and TBH Mn has been my lifeline, literally my contact with the outside world. I have never visited nor read so much on here.

groggymama · 08/08/2006 10:10

too to contemplate - a new forum called "take no shit" should be formed

HuwEdwards · 08/08/2006 10:10

Like NdP, I don't think I would de-camp, it just wouldn't feel right.

lol @ Freddie Laker reference.

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2006 10:12

UCM is that you?

we could have one based in the US, where the libel laws are freer. momsnet. though maybe that exists already.

bad mothers club has always appealed to me, we'd swamp it though I think. mumsnet could split between those who go to Bad Mothers Club and those who start a new Sanctimonious Mothers Club

oh sorry that was last week. of course now we're united. i was forgetting.

edam · 08/08/2006 10:45

at Fennel. Bounty and BMC members have been really supportive over this so maybe if it all went t*ts up we should give them a try? Am sure some technically literate MNrs could set up a stripped down message board though - MN.com?

edam · 08/08/2006 10:47

Although nobody would have to be barking to pursue this after all the bad press. The exposure of their own 'tantrum' (c. Daily Mail) isn't doing their public image/book sales much good.

MerlinsBeard · 08/08/2006 10:48

ez board is easy to set up a temp forum and available all over the world(apparently, i have never tried to set one up tho)

Cappucino · 08/08/2006 10:48

badmothers club usually come here when the site is down. we could see it as a place to meet if we all get lost.

I used to go on babycentre but I would fall asleep whilst reading the postings although they are really, really helpful. There's a basic cattiness missing

could badmothers even cope if mn en masse charged over there?!It looks a lot smaller. Their servers would prob explode.

Kaloo20 · 08/08/2006 11:02

I'm working on getting us a temporary home - with forums etc

I can't say it will come to anything, but I have made the first approach this morning. The site is nothing to do with childcare but is passionate about freedom of speech

I'll post if I get a response

UCM · 08/08/2006 11:08

CF your furniture isn't on that boat that has just sunk is it ?

puff · 08/08/2006 11:10

I really don't think it will come to that. Used to work in PR and can see that David is not going to be beaten by Goliath. This is backfiring badly on Goliath ha ha.

I have a yahoo group set up from last year when we were planning a library. Happy for everyone to meet up there IF needed.

If anyone wants to join up now just in case the worst really does happen, email me and I will send an invite.

I feel really quite distraught at the idea of no mumsnet. It's been such a fixture in my life, I so hope it doesn't come to that. But I do think we should have a plan. BMC servers would crash, I'm sure. Maybe we should all pop over and try to post simulataneously to find out? (JOKE).

MrsRichardHammond · 08/08/2006 13:51

Hopefully it won't come to that! i only came accross this wonderful site yesterday as i came accross from bounty (which is also lovely!)

Hopefully it wont come to being shut down and we can all keep it open. Hope so!

Kaloo20 · 08/08/2006 13:52

i have been working with a non profit making org, heavily into freedom of speech to find an emergency temp home. But he can't accomodate us all on his site. Why not keep this simply and as long as we all know an email address for Mumsnet ie

[email protected]

they can have a standard reply set up to redirect us if required. Bringing the site down will not stop email to Mumsnet mailboxes

simple

theflumpsmum · 08/08/2006 13:57

Is it not as "simple" as finding a new host and using one of the mumsnet domain names already bagged by MNHQ? Would that not count as a separate, new identity?
