WHY have you got rid of All On One Page?

I HATE pages.

Please give them back!

OP posts:

  1. Zombie would still prefer the All on One Page option but
  1. Everything now appears to be working correctly for her.

Windows 7 on laptop with Firefox as browser.

Huitre · 11/12/2013 14:51

It's still the same for me. Clicking on any thread title anywhere including TIW or TIO takes me to the first post. Clicking on a poster's name in order to access a post on the second page takes me to the beginning of the thread on p1 unless I have previously bookmarked any post in that thread in which case it takes me to the post I was trying to get to.

Chrome, Windows 8, Mumsnet Classic, desktop site.

DameDeepRedBetty · 11/12/2013 15:40

It seems to be all better now (for me, anyway).

Can I add my voice to the chorus. The 500 posts thing is a pain. Plus since you have done it, I can't get Active Convos to work at all in my Explorer browser and have had to revert to Chrome.

SconeForAStroll · 11/12/2013 15:54

Thank you for sorting out the thread problems Flowers Wine now could we go back to 1000posts please?

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 16:39

Hello

Glad the interim glitches have (mostly) been sorted (thanks Tech) - if anyone else is having the same problem as huitre could you let us know?

OK, so: thinking out of the box - would an option (as Maryz said some time ago) on Active to go straight to p2 help at all?

Rooners · 11/12/2013 16:51

I was thinking that Maryz. But you articulated it while I was sitting here eating camembert and fretting about being gazumped.

Sorry. And thankyou. It 's a bloody good point.

MrsCakesPremonition · 11/12/2013 16:54

Nooo - don't make Active jump straight to page 2. Not only will you have people who haven't RTFT - they won't even have read the OP.

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 16:55

No, not jumping straight to p2 - but an option to go to p2 (clearly signalled as such) for people who've already read p1

IME fiddling around with existing IT solutions tends to introduce more glitches and issues than existed in the first place.

If the site is no longer fit for purpose, because you keep grafting new bits of functionality on to a creaking infrastructure, then the only answer is to do a proper redesign and relaunch.

In the meantime - put the 1000 posts back, please.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 17:22

No. Stop fiddling around with jumping pages, which is taking 10000x longer to load, and let us go back to all in one page.

Or do what MaryZ just suggested and limit threads to 500 posts.

Pages is just fucking annoying, even if it's only 2 pages.

YoniMatopoeia · 11/12/2013 17:23

Please, please, please can we have all on one page back.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 17:25

Just in case HQ haven't seen this thread.

110 posts. All yes.

Give us pages back.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 17:26

Sorry, give us all in one page back.

BackOnlyBriefly · 11/12/2013 17:27

I skip up and down a long thread (reading and/or quoting) using the browsers page search. If you make it more than one page that will be impossible.

BeyondTheLimitsOfXmasability · 11/12/2013 17:28

What they ^ all said

If any more than 500 posts is glitchy, make the maximum number 500 per thread :)

Huitre · 11/12/2013 17:44

I can't believe nobody is having the same problem as me! I might cry.

Also, totally agree with just limiting threads to 500 posts. Much more sensible.

CarpeVinum · 11/12/2013 18:04

If we have to have 500 limit per page, then there isn't a reason to limit threads to 100 posts anymore, it there ?

Cos it'll just itself and can never become a server groaning 40 squillion post long single page.

And really, if you think about it, we deserve a raised post per thread limit as a reward for good behavoir. Cos not one of us revolted and drove over to invade the Tech shed and set the server on fire in protest.

Which is pretty much the dictionary definition of self retraint in the face of intense provokation. Grin

CarpeVinum · 11/12/2013 18:06

bugger

edit

no need to limit threads to a 1000 posts

RowanMumsnet · 11/12/2013 18:08
GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 18:11

Carpe has a good point.

Do either limit to 500 and give us all in one page or there's no point to limiting it to 1,000.

Also, nice site crash there a minute ago...
