Why do you keep going offline Mumsnet?

Is annoying.

I can't post anything at all on Chat.

LadySlatternlysHoover · 24/05/2013 20:10

Somebody has been doing a spot of spring cleaning and has thrown away a Very Important Part.

usualsuspect · 24/05/2013 20:13

Can you wiggle the wires , tech

ClaraOswald · 24/05/2013 20:13

Drink more gin and kick harder.

quoteunquote · 24/05/2013 20:14

Feed the hamsters please.

TotallyBursar · 24/05/2013 20:16

DH made a snotty comment about my mumsnet distress. To retain some pathetic sliver of dignity I told him it, didn't bother me I was about to do my video.
I had to do the 30 day shred. Twice.
The rest of the time I've been walking around refreshing the page, sad and hunched - like desperately hitting redial when the takeaway is engaged.

I don't know how long it will take me to forgive you. Or feel my legs.

TotallyBursar · 24/05/2013 20:17

See? My punctuation muscle has been sprained.

Myliferocks · 24/05/2013 20:21

This is getting desperate!
I might actually have to start talking to my DC in a minute!

( shudders at thought! )

Tech · 24/05/2013 20:21

Hi, The intermittent site offline message should be better now. Sorry about that. The dodge-o sized buttons should be fixed overnight.

LineRunner · 24/05/2013 20:22

Tech! Helloooo babe.

Yes it does seem a lot better now. Thank you. Smile

LadySlatternlysHoover · 24/05/2013 20:27

Well done Tech!

Was it the Flux Capacitor?

usualsuspect · 24/05/2013 20:28

Thank you, tech.

I've got rather fond of the great big purple sort button on TIO though.

I will miss it.

FruOla · 24/05/2013 20:33

Tech, if you promise it's fixed, you can come to our London Meet Up tomorrow - although you'd better hop on a 'plane pretty smartish! Grin

TheHerringScreams · 24/05/2013 20:35

It seems fine now, Tech.

MadBusLady · 24/05/2013 20:38

I liked that biscuit 404 page you had for a while, then it vanished again. Did it get crumbs all over everything?

Tech · 24/05/2013 20:40

Why thank you FruOla. That's very kind of you but I must regretfully decline. Though the weather here in New York is very London-ish today... makes a person wistful for the old place.

OliviaMMumsnet · 24/05/2013 20:45

Ack don't be wistful.
It's cold and miserable.
Noo Yawk is where it's at.

Tech · 24/05/2013 20:52

Hello MadBusLady, the biscuit 404 is still there. The site offline page is a 503 status message.

What happens (if you are interested) is that each request for a page is dealt with by a web server and an application server. When you request a page, the request goes to the web server which will delegate it to the app server if it's for something like a talk page, rather than a file like an image. If the app server fails to respond for whatever reason within a short timeout period, the web server sends back a status code of 503 to your browser, which means service unavailable, and also sends that site offline message so that the browser can display something.

Earlier this evening, an application server was overloaded because of a human error (possibly by me though I couldn't possibly confirm such a thing) and so wasn't responding to all requests quickly enough. So sometimes you got an "offline" and sometimes you got a page.

LineRunner · 24/05/2013 20:58

Oh Tech, with all this honesty you are spoiling us.

FairyJen · 24/05/2013 20:59

Grin
MadBusLady · 24/05/2013 21:05

NetworkGuy · 24/05/2013 21:05

Can I just say, in passing, that I really love how friendly and informal everyone at MN Tower's replies are.

Makes me feel al warm and fuzzy.

As you were Smile

ThreeBeeOneGee · 24/05/2013 21:17

Thanks Tech, I am saving your message to read tonight as I'm been having difficulty getting to sleep and I think it might do the trick. Grin
