why does MNHQ do this when it's nothing to do with protecting a poster's privacy and all to do with them not liking the response their thread got?

fallenangle the OP of that thread admitted far more than her DH wearing leather wristbands. what she admitted was a serious cause for concern WRT the DC in that house.

WTF. i only got as far as page 2 before it was deleted.

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 15:22

i think WRT that thread 'not in the spirit of the site' probably means HQ dont want to be involved if there were to be any sort of investigation into what the OP is doing infront of her dcs so they removed they removed the comments from their site.

Apparently the additional, more disturbing information came from the OP, later in the thread. i now fully understand what is going on.

freddiemisagreatshag · 16/04/2013 16:00

I was on that thread. I reported it. It took a long time to go. I am also very very concerned about the op and her inappropriate boundaries around her children.

I second what's been said about social services - the issue was the inappropriate behaviour around children in my opinion.

It wasn't really a bunfight either. I've seen worse. The op wasn't getting the answers she wanted so she went crying to hq saying privacy and got it deleted.

And I said as much on the thread.

BOF · 16/04/2013 16:18

Ach, it was a load of bollocks anyway. Bollocks in a vice.

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 16:26

i hope you're right BOF

I dunno BOF I'm not so sure

kneedeepindaisies · 16/04/2013 16:43

I'm not sure either.

I wanted it to be bullshit obviously but I think it would be strange for someone who has been on here talking about pushchairs and weaning to start trolling/attention seeking.

Of course just because its strange, doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

freddiemisagreatshag · 16/04/2013 16:56

I had a thread I asked to be deleted that had at least as much personal info in it as the thread being mentioned here.

HQ said no, let it stand and let it drift down active convos.

Could someone explain the policy please?

HelenMumsnet · 17/04/2013 12:42

Hello. OK, our policy is, generally speaking:

  • We tend not to delete threads on request but we will delete threads/posts that we agree contain details that the poster has realised might identify her in RL

  • We don't delete threads just because the OP isn't happy with the replies she's getting. Although we may feel it necessary to go through it and delete any posts that attack folks personally.

  • We do, pretty rarely, delete entire threads because they've just become a bunfight and every other post would otherwise need deleting for breaking all the guidelines in every direction and the thread would look like Edam and our deletion fingers would hurt

Obviously, as with all our decisions at HQ, we always try to take context into account, rather than apply our policy like a sledgehammer, so there may be exceptions to this - but it's broadly what we do.

But, of course, we sometimes get it wrong - as we did here. And then we fess up and apologise and decide to go a bit steadier on the gin for a bit
