I seem to remember mnhq saying they would consider this, has any decision been made? I would love you all forever, even more than I do now :)

HQ could do a customer survey and see what the overall opinion of the membership is.

Everlong, I don't click on threads by the very few posters who fuck me off annoy me, and if they are the last poster then I avoid, but often they join after me. And give me the rage. And much as I have tried to ignore or be civil, they keep prodding and grinding until I snap.

I'd love to be able to report a troll, then hide. Less troll hunting.

I think blame should have said fewer trollhunting . Inferior education always shows. . And what has she done to her hair? It's erm...interesting.

yawha? Wink

There is a script which allows a ban poster, but I mn from the twatphone most of the time. So I can't use it. And that makes me sad. I'm sure there are posters who feel the same way about me (in fact, I know there are) but they are the same ones I want to hide. Win-win.

EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 17:31

Fewer trolls; less troll hunting.

Imagine fewer trolls
Its easy if you try
Imagine hide a poster
Waving rage gooood-byyye
Imagine no--oo bunfights
And mumsnetting with ease

I know I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you will join us
And mumsnet will be as one

D'ya think we could get bob geldof and gary barlow to sing it when they stage a concert to raise awareness for our campaign?

MorrisZapp · 24/11/2012 17:52

Hide poster is a load of cobblers. It wouldn't prevent bunfights and it wouldn't stop users reading posts by people they don't like.

Seriously, you'd happily MN around blank posts that others were responding to? It wouldn't happen like that.

My best pal turns on her answering machine when she's tired. Then leaps up and groggily answers the phone if you ring her. She doesn't want to miss anything.

If people truly didn't want to have bun fights, they just wouldn't post on threads that annoy them.

FivesAndNorks · 24/11/2012 17:54

But it;'s not necessarily the thread itseld that annoys me. I can be quite happily posting on a load of old bollocks thread about a triplet pirate party (aaargh) and then that Cuervo will come on and just BLEDDY WIND ME UP and I just want to not see her opinion on triplet pirate parties

OP posts:
EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 17:54

I think we can pull out much better slebs than that for our campaign.

(Although I could get a message to Bob as it happens.)

FivesAndNorks · 24/11/2012 17:54

Yes, and I think for the first day or so you'd think "ooo, wonder what she said?" then you'd adjust and your eyes would skim over it - you'd barely register

OP posts:
EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 17:57

I would never wonder what they said. Their opinion would be of no consequence to me. That's why I want Hide Poster. Less waste of space on threads I find interesting.

FivesAndNorks · 24/11/2012 17:59

like the "message deleted by mumsnet" - my brain fills that in with "post you can't read"

OP posts:
EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 18:05

Instead of a blank space, it could read:

"Never you mind about this!" or

"Move on! There's nothing to see here!"

Or it could just show a picture of a kitten.

wannaBe · 24/11/2012 18:06

it is a ridiculous idea. I moderate on a site where this function exists, and when it was first implemented there were certain antagonistic users who hid everyone who dared to disagree with them. Except they then used to read the boards prior to logging in, so as to see what was being saiid about them, then log in to post about how wonderful it was to not be able to read ignorant bullshit on their chosen forum...

Anyone who believes this would reduce trolls and troll hunting is delusional. Because not everyone would use the facility - there are plenty of people who wouldn't hide posters but who would instead just stay to argue with trolls as they already do. The troll policy is already to ignore and report and yet no-one abides by it, so why would this be any different. We have a hide thread facility already and it's clear that people don't use it to avoid being upset by posters.

We are all adults here, no-one can upset you that much that you are incapable of tabbing past their posts. If you are seriously that upset by strangers on the internet then perhaps you need to rethink whether you should be the one posting on it.

EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 18:09

No kittens then. Sad

FivesAndNorks · 24/11/2012 18:10

I loke "Oi never you mind"
Wannabe, I'm not convinced I'd care that much. I know what they're going to say, same old crap, it just wouldn't be there right in my face. I can ignore, but this would be an enhancement - why not do it?

OP posts:
EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 18:11

"The troll policy is already to ignore and report and yet no-one abides by it, so why would this be any different?"

What would you suggest then, wannaBe?
