I seem to remember mnhq saying they would consider this, has any decision been made? I would love you all forever, even more than I do now :)

I have said your name out loud loads, Norks. DD is Hmming me, and I still don't get it.

I don't get Manatee's either, someone take pity on me and explain please.

Jacksmania · 23/11/2012 14:55

If you swap the N and the F, NorksAndFives becomes ForksAnd(K)Nives :o

Jacksmania · 23/11/2012 14:56

Or (K)NivesAndForks rather - oops.

Jacksmania · 23/11/2012 14:58

I would love a "hide poster" button. I can think of half a dozen I'd hide in a heartbeat.

By page 7 of that thread I linked to above ^^, there were:

34 in favour

4 against

5 not sure

Quite a majority.

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 23/11/2012 20:25

Yes, they're allowed to be human beings as well.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 23/11/2012 23:48

How would it work? For example if I'd hidden Username EdnaScoggins, would any thread I looked at on which she had posted have lots of missing posts? And therefore not make much sense.

Sorry if sound a bit thick, it sounds like a good idea in principle. Is it in use on any other forum?

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 23/11/2012 23:49

Shit, if there is a real MNetter with the username Edna Scoggins out there, it is entirely coincidental and I didn't mean you.

Blush
EdnaScoggins · 23/11/2012 23:59

I think you did though. Angry

(Just joking....have nc'd) Grin

It is in use on other forums - I think that thread linked to above gives some.

Jacksmania · 24/11/2012 00:17

I think, if you choose to hide several posters and threads suddenly start making no sense, or are worse than usual, let's say :o, you can always unhide some and see if sense returns. Or the red rage. One of the two. :o

PimpMyHippo · 24/11/2012 00:30

I used to use a forum with a hide poster option - when the poster you'd hidden posted on a thread, it would come up with their username and then instead of the message there'd be a notice saying "You have hidden this poster" and an option to show the content of the post - a bit like when a comment receives too many negative votes on Youtube and it's hidden but not actually deleted, IYSWIM? I never bothered hiding anyone because I'd never be able to resist clicking "show post" anyway, so it was pointless. Grin

EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 01:01

Surely it's effective in disempowering trolls, though. Everybody knows the best way to defeat them is to ignore them, and if they were hidden by other posters on threads, they would lose their power and go and bother another website.

EdnaScoggins · 24/11/2012 01:02

People are always complaining that MN is crawling with trolls, so Hide Poster would vastly improve the site in that respect.

Jacksmania · 24/11/2012 02:06

I don't think a blurb saying "you have chosen to hide this poster" would help me personally. Just seeing some posters' names makes me feel quite stabby. I'd be thinking, "oh yeah, whatserface is first topost on a thread again, WTF, has she got a bell in her computer that bongs every time someone starts a thread, just fuck off already, will you" :o

You'd really have to hide the poster's name as well as the post.
