Local - is it working for you?

nannynick · 18/10/2012 18:26

Just looked at the new Mumsnet Local.
I see the first map, click through to my local area - Surrey.

Then I've looked at Soft Play, Playgrounds, Toddler Groups and they don't show anything. I just see the top banner, side things, footer, and the section title. Nothing below it.

What is it trying to load - a map?

I'm using Google Chrome on Windows Vista, if that's any help.

Techy Stuff:
DIV affected is: local_Main
DIV class side_buttons is empty
DIV class listingslist list1 is empty

Hi nannynick.

It's empty because no one's loaded up any listings yet.

We need folks like you to load up lots of great info for us. We reckon MNer listings would be much better than listings we could filch acquire from other lists - cos you lot definitely know what's good and what's not, local to you.

nannynick · 18/10/2012 18:56

Oh that would explain it. So it's starting from scratch - we had better get listing things.

Hurray!

If I click on the link to my right (local) I get an error 404.

Yes. That bit should have been nixed.

Try local.mumsnet.com (no www)

That should take you to a luffly map and then to the Local you want.

talkingnonsense · 18/10/2012 19:11

Oh- I saw that yesterday but the scrolly map is horrid on my phone. I'll try on the computer later, thank you.

Which Local are you after?

ScarahStratton · 18/10/2012 22:08

I don't understand it at all :(

wed99 · 19/10/2012 12:07

ScarahStratton I'm with you- I don't get it !!!! Can't find the msgs from people in my area. Don't want to know what cafe or park to visit. I liked the old style local. If I had a question now about drinving lessons or recommend a good cleaner where do I look ???

The Local Talk boards will be up and running soon - that's where you can post questions etc.

All the past threads will be there, too: it's just taking a little while to migrate them over.

There's probably a listing section for cleaners, too.

What don't you understand exactly, ScarahStratton?

redlac · 19/10/2012 13:21

the report listing isn't working :)

the report listing isn't working :)

Really? Oh dear. What happens when you click it?

redlac · 19/10/2012 14:01

just reloads the page Helen. Was trying to report a double entry. I've just added and listing for our library and tried to report that and it just refreshes the page too.

OK, I'll flag that up to Tech - thanks for spotting!

Same as the others, I simply can't work out how to navigate it, and I'm not a complete idiot, I'm usually quite good at that sort of thing. Confused

cartblanche · 20/10/2012 00:47

aaaaargh where has it gone - y'know the chatty bit? Get the map and try to zoom in and find Glasgow and then manage to locate it and click and then ....nothing. I'm not an idiot either (I hope!)

Yes, sorry about that. The Local Talk boards will be made live pretty soon.

We had to take them down in order to migrate them from the main site. And the migrating bit is a bit fiddly. Tech are on it.

Am assured no existing Local Talk threads will be lost...

ScarahStratton · 20/10/2012 17:14

Lincolnshire.

It seems to be empty.

Although, thinking about it there is a distinct possibility that it actually is empty. Confused

Yes, it is a bit at the mo, isn't it?

Do please add some good stuff, if you can. We do want the listings to be things MNers like - rather than stuff filched from other listings places have.

IvorHughJackolantern · 20/10/2012 19:30

I can't see anything when I click on Local, all the text is jumbled. I can't click on any of it.

cartblanche · 20/10/2012 22:34

Thanks for the explanation HelenMumsnet - glad I'm not going mad! Good luck with getting it all sorted - it sounds like it's a bit of a mare but can't wait to see it when it's firing on all four cylinders Smile

ScarahStratton · 22/10/2012 09:22

Good stuff?

For here?
