Did you get a Blue Peter badge? Do tell - fame and fortune await (well, possibly)

Hello. Some very nice folks at the Beeb have been in touch with us because they're making a programme to mark the 50th anniversary of the Blue Peter badge next year.

And they really want to talk to some people who won a Blue Peter badge when they were young(er).

So, were/are you the proud owner of Blue Peter badge? What kind was it? What did you get it for? And did getting the badge inspire you to bigger and better things?

Do please post your Blue-Peter-badge tales on this thread.

The BBC folk will be watching, and they may ask us to contact some of you to see if you'd be interested in taking part in their programme. (Obviously, you'd be quite free to say no, if you didn't want to.)

Thanks, MNHQ

I announced the Smarties Book Prize gold award winner in 1996, live on air (it was Oops by Colin McNaughton). Our class got the day off school, think the filming was done at London Zoo. We all got goodie bags and those of us who announced the bronze / silver / gold got badges.

It was awesome Grin

Still have my badge.

I got one - I LOVED Blue Peter - I wrote in to tell them Goldie - one of the dogs had the same birthday as me - I was a very sad child - I was delighted to get a badge back and still have it

I got one for making a dog bed out of a cardboard box according to their instructions and writing a long letter to them about why it hadn't worked. Confused

Got a lovely letter and badge back.

But my best Blue Peter moment was when John Noakes brought a lifesize Loch Ness monster to the block of flats next door to our school (why?!?!) and we were allowed out of school to watch. I was a little bit in love with John Noakes.

I got one when I was 7. But I lost it :-(
I was so proud. I had to draw a picture of what I thought I'd look like and what I'd be doing in 30 years time. Only almost 20 years have passed currently but if I have the same hair style as I do now then I got it spot on! I don't live in new York yet surrounded by floor to ceiling bookshelves but there is still time I suppose.

My badge was a small White plastic round pin badge with the blue ship on. I never wore it, I wasn't allowed Sad my mum kept it with the letter in a safe place. So safe I didn't ever see it again after about the age of 10 or so

I had (still have!) a blue and a silver Blue Peter badge. I am 48.

I got the first one for writing and telling them how to make pompoms out of wool and cardboard doughnut rings (like they wouldn't have known, like it wasn't a staple of their sticky backed plastic drawer).

I got the silver badge for writing and telling them about my cat. I'm sure they were fascinated.

I got a bit cocky at this stage, thought this was a piece of piss. So I tried for the gold badge by writing again and telling them about something so awe-inspiring that I have completely forgotten what it was. Ignoring all evidence that you have to do something impressive (like pluck a dying puppy from the seething sea, or raise zillions of pounds for the Blue Peter appeal by picking old bottle tops out of the gutter).

I also wrote to Edward Heath to tell him off for how my mum's chicken shrivelled in the oven Hmm. I was that kind of child.

I've got one, just a little round pin-badge, for getting my Goldie Limerick published in the book. I can still remember it too... I think I've got the badge tucked away with my Brownie badges.

One of my friends was wearing hers on a ferry crossing once and was asked what she'd done to get it by someone onboard. 'I slept with the cameraman' she answered! which was entirely true as her man was a cameraman :)

Do BP reissue lost badges? Mine has gone in a house move .

Got mine as a runner up in a competition to write a storyline for an episode of Grange Hill. Not sure I can remember my entry other than that it centred on Cathy and Trish. I do remember that the prize allowed the winner to appear in the episode in question - the winner's involved a school disco (not as good as my idea I recall thinking).

Also remember being slightly disappointed that it was a round badge rather than shield shaped. Ungrateful, moi?

It would have been around 1975. Sorry Riccky.

I got a white shield with a blue ship on. I think it was for sending in name suggestions for the dog who was eventually named Bonnie but my memory is very hazy. It might have been the cats who became Kari and Oke actually. I also got autographs from Mark Curry and Yvette Fielding, possibly John Leslie as well but that may have been separately.

I got my badge (white shield with blue ship) in the early 80's for writing in and suggesting that my dog could marry Goldie the BP dog. I remember the letter from Biddy Baxter, full of places I could get in to for free which we never went to.
I am very ashamed that I have lost my BP badge somewhere in the black hole that is my parents house.

I did. We wrote asking the presenters to come on a day trip with us as sometimes they did trips with a family and made a film about it. Can't remember which presenters but Simon Groom was definitely one. They wrote back and said no but have a badge each.

We must have written lots of times as I also have a cloth badge and a few signed pics.

Hello I do still have my White shield with blue ship, Blue Peter badge given to me in the 60s, I wrote a letter to tell Blue Peter that I had a dog called Pim who had sliver gray fur and skin that was blue. Biddy Baxter, wrote back and sent me two badges one for me and one for my bother, sadly my bother is now no longer with us and the letter is long gone, however my badge is pined to my Teddy Bear sitting on a chair in my bedroom, The Teddy bear I have had since birth next year I am to be 60

I've got a Blue Peter badge. It's a white shield with a blue ship. I appeared on the show with my school in the 80's. We made these large puppets re-enacting the Hindu story of the Ramayan. The badge was 'almost' stolen. My badge used to be stuck on my bedroom wall for many years and when my parents added an new extension to the house one of the workers took it. Luckily I noticed it was missing from the wall and my dad had a word with the manager and the worker gave it back. It's in a much safer place now :)

I won the Competition Winners white round badge in the late 60s early 70s. No need to say I have lost it since. I contacted the office and they told me there was nothing they could do as there records didn't go back that far.
Yet I remember there being a tour around the office in one episode, that showed a huge cabinet with cards in it showing every badge winner since the series started.

I have the round, white competition winner badge. Not the coveted shield one Envy. I won it for writing a limerick about Goldie the dog. Can't remember the limerick but I think it probably had something to do with dog poo Grin

I absolutely loved BP - to the point of feeling bereft when they went off on their Summer Expedition. Why isn't Biddy Baxter a dame? I saw her in the street a few years ago and really wanted to go and tell her what BP meant to me but didn't because it felt silly.
