Quote facility?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find anything on it.
Is there a frightfully good reason why there is no 'quote' facility on MN? I would find it immensely useful...

I would come around to the idea if we can also have a hide poster option and a timed edit function.

Timed edit would be good. How long would you get? 5 minutes?

It would help with correcting spelling mistakes I feel compelled to explain in case people think I am illiterate.

And I would love a hide poster.

I don't think a quote facility is necessary, but could put up with a like button in order to get the edit and hide poster.
