Hello tech geniuses (a bit much?)

Please could you sort it so that both [ thanks ] and [ flowers ] make Thanks

I am not the only person who would like to put in a bunch of flowers for a birthday, or get well or to cheer someone up, and I type in Flowers to try to get the flowers. I see it all over the place.

Can't be tooooooo tricky, can it? It isn't adding to the list of emoticons, it isn't sparkly, it isn't a ticker..

Thanks

puffins have luscious eyelashes! Who knew?

Thanks

Changing it to Flowers I get and would support.

Having two ways of achieving the same thing would be confusing IMO.

NorksAreMessy · 29/07/2012 18:38

I don't want to confuse things even further by CHANGING anything...just ADDING to its usefulness

Thanks

Trills - agreed that women are just as technically able, just that MN do not seem to employ any women in technical roles, which has always confused me

Trills · 29/07/2012 19:01

I work for a techy sort of company and we just don't get very many women applying for techy type roles, sadly.

We have ColetteMumsnet and RachelBMumsnet on our tech team. They don't tend to post, so that's probably why you haven't come across them!

Trills · 29/07/2012 19:24

It makes me happy that there is a Tech called Colette :)

Bossybritches22 · 29/07/2012 19:28

Brew Biscuit Hobnob choccie kind all laid out for lovely Techy peeps .

...What about me?

NormaSteepleChaser · 29/07/2012 19:52

Why are the techy women not posting as coletteTech then? Why do they get MN rather than tech?

Tee2072 · 29/07/2012 19:53

Colette the Tech needs to post!! So does Rachel, but her name doesn't rhyme. Grin

Never to old to flutter eyelashes.

Umm it might be ColetteTech, as opposed to ColetteMumsnet, I took a guess tbh.. Blush

Well, TBH, I don't really mind whether the techs have bumps in their jeans or in their shirts.
sex, for once, is not important here. :)

All I would like is for a both [ flowers ] and [ thanks ] to get Thanks

OP posts:
Trills · 29/07/2012 21:19

I agree that it doesn't matter, I was just saying that we should not assume that all Techs have bumps in their jeans as you so imaginatively put it :o

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 29/07/2012 22:34

Tech,
Marvellous Tech,
Wonderful Tech,
Glorious Teccccccch (jazz hands finale)!!!

I too am pleased by the cadence of ColetteTech and the new expression "that's the badger."

Thanks to Norks.

Flowers to all Techs.

Hello all,

Thanks to all who posted, we will see if Colette fancies a jolly out of the shed to come and say hi soon.

The origins of the [ thanks ] emoticon are pretty special and so it would be a fairly big deal to switch it to Flowers and not one that we would take too lightly, although we do take your point, we have had this discussion before.

If you would still like us to look at this then keep posting and we will think on but we thought you should know the history of the emoticon first.

NorksAreMessy · 30/07/2012 14:44

Hello Rebecca and a specially HUUUUGE hello to ColletteTech

I really don't want to 'switch' the [ thanks] to [ flowers ] but to ADD [ flowers ] so that whichever you wrote, both would come out as Thanks

I know the origins are special, BUT, things can develop and move on without losing their original meaning. Nobody would deny that the original reason was a bit totally and utterly wonderful. i dont want to take anything away from that, but there are other times when Thanks might be appropriate

Thanks

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/07/2012 15:21

Blush Tut, point taken Trills, I only put chaps because I've only ever seen trousebumpTechs referred to/ posting on MN.

RebeccaAdlingtonMumsnet · 30/07/2012 16:25

Wouldn't it just re-open Hot drink gate... [tea] [coffee]
[hot chocolate] Brew

We will think on...
