The argument against it is that it would be confusing, but Tbh it'd be no less confusing thnn threads where every other post is deleted, of which there are many.it would just be your own, additional deletions, if you see what I mean?

Good point. And very true.

FoofFighter · 21/06/2012 14:58

I too wish there was a block button for downright rude posters.
Other forums (yes even parenting ones) have the option and it doesn't make things overly confusing. Doubt there ever will be one on MN though Hmm

NeilsBoar · 21/06/2012 14:58

In fact it could be far less confusing as the other sites I've used that have this feature allow you to show the content of the 'hidden' post if you want to...

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2012 15:10

Noooo! That defeats the point, surely? Od be so tempted but need to make a decision that I haveno interest in what they say and stick to it

OP posts:
LadyBeagleEyes · 21/06/2012 15:24

I don't agree, I want to see the disablist/racist/trollish posters in all their glory.
Free speech and all that.
The good thing about Mumsnetters is that those posters will get flamed or deleted, and maybe help make people change their thinking.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2012 15:25

I used to agree but there are some posters who you know will incense you. You want to post on threads they're on but not actually see the Crap they're posting.

OP posts:
24HourPARDyPerson · 21/06/2012 15:30

Agree.

It would cut down on bunfights as you wouldn't be rising to the bait.

But I suspect MNHQ quite like the bunfights as it keeps the clicks coming.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2012 15:35

LBE (I can't think if a way to say this without being snarky - I'm not :)) you wouldn't have to use it if you didn't want to. It would be an option.

OP posts:
LadyBeagleEyes · 21/06/2012 15:42

Fair enough, Stealth, and no you don't sound snarky at all.
It would be a shame though that if all the intelligent posters, who can put up a good argument disengaged, it would just leave the idiots.
There's some posters on here that have to be challenged, but I suppose if it's genuinely upsetting somebody, then I I have no problem with the right for people to hide.
I'd hope the poster in question would know why though.

24HourPARDyPerson · 21/06/2012 16:13

I don't think it would work that way, LBE. You could block me and not have to deal with my nonsense, but Stealth could still 'ave 'at me. There'd still be great debate, just less of the snowball effect, imo. Course it might be too much for you, on reading Stealth's blistering evicerations of me - you'd probably have to unblock me to see just how badly I'm behaving Grin

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2012 16:16

But as it stands, some posts aren't deleted until an hour or so has passed. So you still get that effect.

OP posts:
Nagoo · 21/06/2012 16:19

I would have to press 'reveal' to know what a dick they were being.

Does anyone have the restraint to leave someone blocked!? I doubt it! Grin

yellowraincoat · 21/06/2012 16:20

There are some posters I always disagree with - I don't mind reading their posts and responding.

There are, however, some who are just up themselves, smug, sanctimonious idiots who I just don't want to engage with - and don't anyway.

I do not want to read their drivel.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2012 16:22

Yes! Exactly that! I'd probably choose to block them and not the racist etc ones, or even the trolls.
(hopes I'm not one of them :o)

OP posts:
LeB0F · 21/06/2012 16:23

Oui, j'agree. I have said that a Hide Poster option would transform my MNing and quite possibly extend my life by reducing my worryingly labile blood pressure.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2012 16:24

And I have probably told you you're wrong. But you wernt, I was

OP posts:
24HourPARDyPerson · 21/06/2012 16:25

Someone who winds you up is different to someone who genuinely upsets you. You'd probably leave the latter hidden.

The former, however...sometimes you just can't resist lifting the bandage to see the horrible festering scar

GrimmaTheNome · 21/06/2012 16:26

I don't think its necessary. There are some posters who I might Hmm at on some threads - and can skip over if I CBA to read it but who are perfectly OK on another thread. I remember once I'd been having a bit of a set-to with an individual (probably on a religion thread) and then she turned up late at night in Doghouse looking for advice which I was more than happy to try to help with. Would have been a pity if I'd blocked her.

I'll block the lot of yiz

yellowraincoat · 21/06/2012 23:55

Lol at 24Hour.

Go on then, block me. I reckon at least one person has put me on their block list today and she can swing for me for all I care.

StealthPolarBear · 22/06/2012 08:55

bumping this so the relevant person can see it
