PLEASE can we have the option to block all PMs?

I don't want to receive them.

Ever.

You used to be able to opt out of receiving CATS messages and I would like the same option now. It won't affect anyone who doesn't want to opt out.

Hmm that's a bit crap.

JustFabulous · 31/08/2012 19:39

You can't send a PM to yourself.

You can block certain posters, I have done that, from messaging you but you should be able to opt out of receiving them imo.

You can block someone without reading their PM to you.

SoupDragon · 31/08/2012 19:44

I can't see how to block someone without reading their PM. The little red hand doesn't appear anywhere else.

JustFabulous · 31/08/2012 19:46

I just tested it.

Went into inbox.
Clicked on title of thread.
The name of the sender and message title comes up with the red hand showing but not the message.
Click block.

I click on the title and the whole PM comes up. Confused

I just did it again and just got the name of the sender and the post title. Didn't see the message.

Soupy has been advised not to flash her envelope before. She keeps doing it.

LineRunner · 31/08/2012 20:59

My envelope doesn't flash. I only get a big red static spot. Like a boil on my flap. Fnar fnar.

Trills · 31/08/2012 21:01

The yellow envelope isn't really that intrusive, is it?

Send yourself a PM, so it is always yellow, then never click on it.

It's just part of the background. The site has a bunch of people with babies shaped like a cannabis leaf of the left, a yellow envelope in the middle, an advert for Mark Warner or something on the right.

germyrabbit · 31/08/2012 21:03

don't really see why this can't be an option. i've had some right weird ones in the past but to be honest they have amused me that someone could be arsed to be so bitchy!

on the other hand had some really helpful ones that i've acted upon so like them pm myself

Pinot · 31/08/2012 21:04

No ad's for me, not since I did Maryz ad-blocker wotsit

SoupDragon · 31/08/2012 21:14

Yes.

This is a request to have the same privacy options we had with CAT messages.

It does not affect anyone other than a person who wants to opt out.

So those who say "just ignore the envelope" are rather missing the point. Why can't you just ignore threads which are not in the topic you deem correct, for example Wink

Never get any PMs...

Not sure whether to be
Angry
Blush
Sad
or
Envy

Sorry that this fell down a black hole - I will poke Tech for a response.

Olivia was too busy because it was "Friday Night" apparently.

I quite like pm's, although I can count the amount I've had on very few fingers [sadface] (never even had any porn ones or anything [double sadface])

I've only had one crappy one and that wasn't offensive, more hilarious in it's passive aggressiveness!

I don't see why there can't be an opt out if that's what you want. Agree there needs to be some sort of notification for the sender though or you risk seeming like a bit of a twat.

MarshaBrady · 01/09/2012 11:37

I like pms in general but do think if a message is blocked it should be evident.

Same for people opting out.

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 11:49

It was always clear that you had opted out of CAT messages so it can't be difficult.

I'm surprised there is no "bounce back" message wrt blocked senders. Having said that, if I've blocked someone I really couldn't give a damn whether they think I am a twat for not replying. Given I've blocked them they are clearly not people whose opinion I care about.
