PLEASE can we have the option to block all PMs?

I don't want to receive them.

Ever.

You used to be able to opt out of receiving CATS messages and I would like the same option now. It won't affect anyone who doesn't want to opt out.

I dont even know how to send a pm and I have never recieved one!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/06/2012 13:33

yy Hully. Name and shame the odorous little scrotes.

Hullygully · 07/06/2012 13:35

Absolutely. I've yet to have a horrid one, but I would deffo post it.

KatieMiddleton · 07/06/2012 13:37

I would quite like a little message I could put on mine directing people to post on a thread rather than giving advice by PM. I'm not comfortable with that and it also strays into personal advice - which I charge for in RL.

I am behind on my PMs though - I got a few spammy ones and haven't caught up on the nice ones.

I do like getting a nice PM though :)

flowery · 07/06/2012 13:40

Yes please. Again. Have posted asking this before on other threads. Would be really handy.

I feel rude not replying (as advised by MNHQ) or refusing requests for advice but can't possibly give personal advice free to everyone. It would be just easier if people couldn't message me to ask in the first place.

QuintessentialShadows · 07/06/2012 13:41

I have had a few nice ones, and a few nasty ones too. Usually from people who disagree with me and dont want to show themselves as the nasty biatches they are for others to see on the thread.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/06/2012 13:42

How can you be behind on them, KM?

Is everyone else getting billions to my small handful?

Never any horrid PMs, but I was called a twat and told to fuck off twice in as many days recently. I was quite proud.

KatieMiddleton · 07/06/2012 13:45

I get quite a few Jenai and then I miss the ones I would reply to because I find it really difficult to say "no, I'm sorry but if you want that kind of advice you need to pay for it. Here's my rate card"

I don't mind the "can you have a look at my thread" PMs but can you give me personalised employment advice are a bit much. Plus I could be anyone so there's an internet safety issue.

KatieMiddleton · 07/06/2012 13:46

Plus sometimes I am wrong! Shock

SoupDragon · 07/06/2012 13:48

"Consulting my spreadsheet I see that neither Soup nor GOML have posted anything that warrants a "fuck off""

Well, speaking for myself I can't help thinking your spreadsheet is incorrect... Wink

Oh I see. Nobody would ask for my professional advice on anything Grin

KatieMiddleton · 07/06/2012 13:49
Grin
Hullygully · 07/06/2012 13:50

No nor me, Jenai. Despite my wealth of knowledge and nineteen consultancies

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/06/2012 13:52

Grin Soup.

I use conditional formatting to highlight fuckoffworthiness. It's very handy.

Did the tech Gurus get asked about this?

I really, really don't get why people send nasty PMs - apart from the fact that they are cowards, of course.

OliviaLMumsnet · 24/06/2012 17:37

@SoupDragon

Did the tech Gurus get asked about this?

Erm. I am sure they did but I will check.

SoupDragon · 24/06/2012 17:59

This isn't about nasty PMs per se, more the fact that it would be nice to have the same level of privacy we had with CAT messages.

OP posts:
frankie4 · 24/06/2012 18:07

I agree we should be able to block them. I share an email address with my dh, and sometimes my dc's also access my emails. I was once sent a (nice) pm with some advice about depression which I was unhappy about the rest of my family being able to see as it also referred to my username.

SoupDragon · 31/08/2012 09:53

I think it is an opportune moment to bump this...

I think anyone who sends a deliberately shitty PM should get a final warning. Any more and they should have the PM option taken away from them.

SoupDragon · 31/08/2012 18:07

With CATS you got an immediate error message to the effect that the poster doesn't accept PMs. I can't see why this would not be possible with PMs.

In my ideal world, I'd like to be able to limit mine with the "MN Friends" list so I could get Wooly Hug PMs. I am more than happy to just let them know my email address though :)
