Ta-da! Our re-vamped Reviews section is live - please let us know your thoughts

A quick nudge to invite you all over to our new, gussied-up Reviews section. Do come and have a good look around - we've given these pages a lick and a polish and (if we do say so ourselves) we think the place has scrubbed up nicely.

As well as giving our appearance a bit of a spritz, we've tried to streamline the whole process. It's now quicker and - we hope - more intuitive to rate a product you own, a campsite you've visited or a best-seller you've read, or to find out what other MNers think of a product you're mulling over.

And we've extended and expanded our reviews categories - you can now browse and upload reviews for techie products from apps to e-readers, and peruse Mumnsetters' recommendations for your next family car (or nippy little sportster, if that's what tickles your fancy). The eagle-eyed amongst you will note that these product categories are currently terrifyingly empty - so do feel free to review a tech product or vehicle you own .

There are around 20,000 reviews overall, each one generously uploaded by a MNer who felt moved to help fellow MNers avoid costly mistakes, or find a sanity-saving product. Reviews are central to the MN ethos of making parents lives easier - so a huge thank you to all of you who are seasoned reviewers, and an extra eyelash-flutter to those who might be persuaded to upload a tech, car or any other review over the next few weeks Grin.

This is still very much the beta version/ work in progress, so apols in advance for any glitches or bugs that you might come across - do let us know about them here and we'll do our best to fix them sharpish. And don't forget to let us know what you think of the changes overall - good or bad! - and tell us your suggestions for how we can improve things further.

Many thanks,

MNHQx

Or you could tweak it so one-word reviews didn't get as much weight as wordier ones.

SarkyWench · 05/05/2012 18:14

I agree that more short reviews are more helpful than fewer long reviews.

SecretSquirrels · 06/05/2012 17:34

Well I've looked at the travel section. When I looked in there before I gave up as it was so random.
Much better now though it won't replace tripadviser.
When choosing a holiday I would really, really like to see reviews from others with DCs of same sex and ages as mine.
If your holiday suited tour two teenage boys then it tells me a lot.

bagelmonkey · 06/05/2012 18:36

In the trikes & ride-ons section little tikes Cody coupe II toy car has 2 separate groups of reviews.

CatherineHMumsnet · 07/05/2012 10:22

bagelmonkey - thanks for letting us know. We had to bring some 20,000 reviews over to a spangly new system so there have been some doubling up. We're trying to catch them whenever we can so any spots from Mumsnetters are very helpful.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 07/05/2012 19:06

I just went over to look and had to come straight out of it as the buggies are still overlapping everything else, that kind of thing can give me a migraine but am interested in looking at it when it is sorted out :)

CatherineHMumsnet · 08/05/2012 09:31

For all the people whose pages are displaying with products overlapping - t'would be very helpful to know what browser you're using - and whether you're on a Mac or PC.

MrsKitty · 08/05/2012 17:53

CatherineHMN - I get the overlapping when I'm at work on a PC on Internet Explorer (not sure which number). Haven't tried it at home yet.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 08/05/2012 18:15

Pc, internet explorer 9 :)

SarkyWench · 09/05/2012 09:41

one more suggestion...

Can we have 'style and beuty' reviews for brands/shops? One of the main reasons that lurk on the S&B board is to discover good value brands that I haven't heard of. We could rate brands for things like value for money, quality, average cost etc.
Wold be very useful IMO

CatherineHMumsnet · 09/05/2012 11:09

MrsKitty MonsterBookofTysons - thanks. Will investigate

KateMumsnet · 18/05/2012 14:42

Hello SarkyWench

Thanks for the suggestion. Since the quality of products can vary considerably within one brand, we'll probably stick to product reviews for now. If there's a big call for it over the next few months, we can rethink.
