Dear MN HQ, why can't I start threads while using the mobile site?

SmileItsSunny · 10/03/2012 21:11

I have an android, hence not using an App.

It has probably saved me from several ill-thought-out threads, but still it is frustrating!

I write them all up, then click the 'create conversation' button, and hey presto... nothing happens. Sigh.

Why the double posts though?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 10/04/2012 21:33

Sorry about that (back on laptop now though).

I have never been able to post on MN with my blackberry in a year, but apparently whatever glitch that was has been fixed now.

But god knows why it posts twice!

usualsuspect · 10/04/2012 21:36

You are so excited you had to post twice , gerrof Grin

I can post from my blackberry , but I rarely do because the text is to small.

Tech · 10/04/2012 22:34

Oh yes, it doesn't work on mobile (facepalm.) Give us a few minutes. Will post again.

Tech · 10/04/2012 22:37

Hi, If you try that link again now it should work. Sorry about that.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/04/2012 23:28

Done...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/04/2012 23:48

If it helps, it's not just that I can't start a thread, the whole start a thread page displays very oddly, like there is something wrong in the formatting.

BustleInYourHedgerow · 11/04/2012 00:15

Blackberrys always post twice GetOrf. You shall have to precede each post with: I'm not Lissie but....

Oh and done. Arf at page not working.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/04/2012 20:15

Any update tech? Is it going on the bottom or the top of the to do list?

PimpMyTunnel · 12/04/2012 20:21

Its only opera mini that has that problem. I reply to posts all the time on opera but if i want to start one I have to use the normal internet on the phone. I noticed this ages ago and thought it was just me

Tech · 12/04/2012 20:22

Hi, We need to get hold of an android device and a copy of the relevant version of Opera to see what's going on. I don't have an android phone, but I can borrow one. We haven't forgotten about it...

Tech · 12/04/2012 21:23

Hi, One of my esteemed colleagues has helped me out with a phone loan.... can you try again now and see what happens? Ta.

Tech · 12/04/2012 21:27

To be more accurate, she's taken time out of her evening to test something with her android phone and Opera. What a marvel. Anyway, fingers crossed it's fixed it.

PimpMyTunnel · 12/04/2012 21:31

I deleted opera so can't test for you I'm afraid

BustleInYourHedgerow · 13/04/2012 00:05

Tis fixed. Well done! Now everybody will get to read my super-interesting threads! How exciting!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/04/2012 00:33

Yay, it works! Thank you tech x and can you fix the dodgy formatting on the start thread page too

Tech · 13/04/2012 14:54

Whaddaya want, blood? Actually looking at it now in pondering mode, it does look a bit rubbish - I don't know why it squeezes the smiley hints next to the message box and makes everything squished up and altogether Just Not Right. I'll have a look at it today.

BertieBotts · 13/04/2012 14:57

It works on mine, although the text is ridiculously small on my screen when typing, so I make lots of typos.

I just use the standard browser which comes with android. I am too lazy to download anything else TBH.

BertieBotts · 13/04/2012 14:57

Although I do have a Samsung Galaxy Apollo which has a freakishly small screen in smartphone terms, I am told.

PimpMyTunnel · 13/04/2012 15:41

Tech its supposed to be all squished up and look like that. Opera mini compresses the site so it loads quicker. Normal Opera won't do this but Opera mini does it to slot of sites so its their fault not yours Grin what's the whaddya want blood about??? Grin

Tech · 13/04/2012 16:18

No, I mean when you are trying to start a thread, the smiley hints are over to the right of the text box, rather than below. That means the phone has to squeeze up the display a lot more than is really necessary, and so the input box ends up tiny. We could improve on that I think.

The whaddaya want comment was in response to the crossed out bit in ItsAllGoingToBeFine's last post. It was a bit of faux annoyance at her having the temerity to suggest that maybe things should work correctly. (Must remind self never to joke online...)

PimpMyTunnel · 13/04/2012 16:24

When you added the blood at the end it made me think you was ghetto Grin

SmileItsSunny · 14/04/2012 09:22

Sorry for delay, RL got in the way of my MN time... Glad to hear it's fixed OliviaMN, thanks to everyone who helped Thanks

Off to test now. Will try to subdue any urges towards random rambling thread-starting!

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/04/2012 12:25

BTW, I am using Opera Mobile, not Mini. It's not particularly squashed on my phone, it's just there is a huuuuuuge gap between the subject field and the message field, with all the message hints squeezed in down the rhs.
