Tthe one in the top box? (technical)

That's different each time?

Is that how many threads have ever been started?

And does it include dead Chat threads and deleted threads?

You're hallucinating again, aren't you?

TheSkiingGardener · 19/02/2012 21:48

Hmmm, deleted threads eh?

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

TheSkiingGardener · 19/02/2012 21:48

The one in the URL yes?

Nagoo · 19/02/2012 21:49

That is an interesting question :)

Gastontheladybird knows about this kind of thing.

Cheddars · 19/02/2012 21:51

So this thread ends with 276 yes?

Interesting.

QED · 19/02/2012 21:52

I just tried it with a 1 instead (ie just a 1) and it came up with thread deleted. So not sure whether deleted threads would still be there.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 19/02/2012 21:53

What be this URL, SkiiG?

OP posts:
Trills · 19/02/2012 21:53

This thread is
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/1410276

So to guess a thread you'd have to correctly guess the topic as well as the number

ChaosTrulyReigns · 19/02/2012 21:54

Oooh, you've got the clevers QED.

Shall we pick numbers?

OP posts:
Trills · 19/02/2012 21:54

URL is the address of a website

Like www.mumsnet.com

or www.deadoraliveinfo.com

Cheddars · 19/02/2012 21:56

If you change the end number to 5, you get an unanswered thread in the History topic. Who knew there was a History topic?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 19/02/2012 21:57

Thanks Trills.

Are you happy with my thread placemnet?

OP posts:
Trills · 19/02/2012 21:57

Ah, so you DON'T need to chose the topic. The topic auto-populates if you get the number right.

dearprudence · 19/02/2012 21:58

But if you just change the number, not the earlier part of the URL, then it jumps you to a different section of the site.

I've had a play around and it does seem that these are consecutive thread numbers, irrespective of what section they are in.

QED · 19/02/2012 21:58

No, you can just put a number in and it finds the topic it was in. I just did a number after talk/ and it came up with a new topic. ie

www.mumsnet/com/talk/site_stuff/1410200 and it found the "right" topic.

Hassled · 19/02/2012 21:58

oooh this is good.
I just changed the number to 1410275, deleted the thread title, hit return and it took me to www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/a1410275-Might-need-to-live-near-Abington-Cambridge-where-to-live. So the topic isn't linked to the number, and is sequential according to date/time the thread was started.

QED · 19/02/2012 21:59

So we could try and find the deleted thread, whichever one it is. When roughly did it start?

dearprudence · 19/02/2012 21:59

This was thread number 1,000,000

TheSkiingGardener · 19/02/2012 21:59

Sorry, and thanks Trills

So we can play random number thread finding, but can't get to deleted ones. Poo

QED · 19/02/2012 22:01

1410000 was started at 15:57 today

Trills · 19/02/2012 22:02

Thread 10,000 has still never been answered.

QED · 19/02/2012 22:03

But that was started in 2001 - when did Mumsnet start? Did the very early posts get lost somehow?
